Grade 3/4 SPOTLIGHT
In light of ‘Bully No Way week,’ the Year 3/4 Community have been focusing on the theme, “Be Bold, Be Kind and Speak Up.’ After big discussions about what constitutes bullying and how we can be an upstander, the Year 3/4 Community launched into a series of engaging, thought-provoking tasks.
For our Wellbeing sessions, we have been encouraging students to appreciate and celebrate the diversity of backgrounds, interests and identities within our class and wider Corpus Christi Community. Students participated in an activity that encouraged them to share their favourite foods, colours, subjects, animals, and sports. A simple activity that connected students to peers who they may have never worked or played with before.
For our second session, Fostering Positive Relationships, discussions were held around what makes a healthy relationship. Putting their skills to work, students were thoroughly engaged in the ‘Human Knot,’ activity. They joined hands to form a tangle, focusing on teamwork, communication and safety as a means of achieving the goal to ‘untangle’ themselves. It was great to see students working together to achieve the common goal. Students also created some eye-catching posters to spread an anti-bullying message across our school community. Here are some examples:
In our upcoming sessions, students will continue their discussions about ‘Belonging,’ and work through scenarios, to apply their learnings on how to manage real life situations if they were to arise.
Save the Date
Thursday 11 September is R U OK? Day. R U OK? Day is about reminding everyone to check in with those around them and start a conversation that could make a difference. At school, we encourage students to be kind, supportive friends and to look out for one another. A simple question – “Are you OK?” – can open the door to connection, care, and support.
Next week, we will share with families some details about R U OK? Day. Children will be encouraged to wear a dash of yellow on this day. Stay tuned for further details in the coming days.
