2023 Melbourne Renegades Roadshow

Last Tuesday our Year 5 and 6 students were lucky enough to receive a visit from cricket players from the male and female Melbourne Renegade teams. This was a part of the launch of the 2023/24 Women’s and Men’s Big Bash and cricket season. Students were involved in cricket drills and skills. Well done to all involved.

2023 Schools Netball Championships

Good luck to the Year 6 girls who will represent Sacred Heart at the 2023 Schools State Netball finals this Thursday 31st August. This will take place at the State Netball Centre in Melbourne. The team consists of Livi Harris, Charli Doyle, Stella Foley, Olivia Widdicombe, Olivia Horner, Astin McCrimmon, Amelia Veale, Indiana Hillman and Scarlett Gibson. A big thank you to Sally Montano for coaching the team and to Ms Tomkins for her team manager role.

Geelong Cats ‘Healthy Heroes Program’

Tomorrow, Wednesday 30th August, from 10:00am – 11:00am the Geelong Cats ‘Healthy Heroes Program’ will visit our Year 3 and 4 students. This program is all about players from the Geelong Cats AFL men and women’s team sharing some of their key messages around being a Healthy Hero. This includes screen time, hydration, physical activity, healthy eating and sleep.

Students will need to wear their sports uniform because they will also be involved in some football games with the Cats players. Children may like to bring along a football jumper to wear, football boots are not required – runners only.

An activity consent has been raised regarding Media and Photo Release.

Winter Sport Round 5

On Friday 8th September, our Year 5 and 6 students will play winter sport against Colac South West Primary School. This will take place at Sacred Heart between recess and lunch. Students will need to wear their sports uniform.

Name: Brayden Anson (Yr 5 RO)

1. Which sport is your favourite to play and why? My favourite sport is running races because it is fun to race against other people.

2. What is your best sporting moment? My best sporting moment was at the Sacred Heart Athletics day and winning the 200 metre race.

3. Which strengths do you believe you have that make you a good athlete? My best strength in sport is my running, I am quite fast.

4. Why do you love playing sports? I like playing sport because it makes me feel good and it helps me to get fit.

5. Who is your favourite sports person? LeBron James Why are they your favourite? He is my favourite basketball player because he is a very good basketball player. He is fast and he can jump high.

6. What is your favourite sporting team? My favourite sporting teams are the teams that have my friends in it.

 

Name: Levi Charles (Yr 4 DC)

1. Which sport is your favourite to play and why? Cricket is my favourite sport because it is fun to bat, bowl, field and wicket keep. 

2. What is your best sporting moment? My best spoting moment was winning the 800 metre race at the Sacred Heart Athletics Carnival.

3. Which strengths do you believe you have that make you a good athlete? My strengths in sport are my speed and the height that I can jump.

4. Why do you love playing sports? I love playing sport because it is fun and I like it.

5. Who is your favourite sports person? Shai Bolton Why are they your favourite? He is my favourite player because he won ‘Mark of the Year’.

6. What is your favourite sporting team? Richmond Tigers

 

Name: Asha McNaughton (Yr 4 DC)

1. Which sport is your favourite to play and why? My favourite sport is basketball because it challenges me and I like it.

2. What is your best sporting moment? My best sporting moment was when I got asked to play sport for the older grades.

3. Which strengths do you believe you have that make you a good athlete? My biggest strength in sport is defending, especially in netball and basketball.

4. Why do you love playing sports? I love playing sport because I like to exercise and it keeps me fit.

5. Who is your favourite sports person?  Reagan Smart Why are they your favourite? Reagan is my favourite sports person because she teaches me new tactics for running.

6. What is your favourite sporting team? My favourite sporting team is the Geelong Cats.
