Years 7-12 Athletics Carnival

Last Friday, the Years 7-12 students made the trek down to the Northern Oval for the annual Athletics Carnival. The sun was out which made for a great day to do some running, jumping and throwing.

The Year 12s were dressed to impress with those supporting Brigidine dressed up as Smurfs, whilst those in Augustine were spotted as Simpsons characters and representing Delany was Tinkerbell and a dragon. Aside from the Year 12s, we saw other year levels dressed to support their houses with touches of zinc and pom poms.

For lunch not only did we have our wonderful canteen staff cooking up a storm, we also had Purple Pete and his VM crew with a cook up of snags to fundraise for Vinnies.

As the day went on we saw an increase in participation across year levels which is most likely due to the work of DJ MacDaddy (Makenzie) and the singing from the HillBilli’s (Mr Hill and Miss Johns).

To finalise the day, the Year 12 students competed against the staff in their relays. The male staff had a great win with Mr Hill being so quick he missed the starting gun. The females had a false start which led to Mrs Partridge facing a Simpson road block.

Throughout the day the points between houses remained tight but Delany came away with the win followed by Augustine then Brigidine. Participation was high from students with many ribbons won.

A big congratulations to the age champions for the day:

Sam B and Immogen B (12/13 age group)

Brody T and Miley M (14 age group)

Cooper O and Grace K (15 age group)

Hunter F and Matilda C (16 age group)

Lincoln D and Isla C (17 age group)

Bayley L and Tess L (20 age group)

Goodluck to those who won events on the day and have chosen to represent our school at Campaspe Athletics in Shepparton. Thank you to all who helped in the setting up, packing up and running of the day!

Year 7 and 9/10 Campaspe Basketball

Last Tuesday, a team of Year 7 girls and Years 9 and 10 boys headed to Echuca for Campaspe Basketball. The Year 7s, along with Coach Johns, began the day with a great win against Echuca College but couldn’t catch up to St Joe's early lead.

The Years 9/10 boys were led by Coach Jackie who had a very successful day, winning their games against Echuca College, Nathalia Secondary College and a nail biter against St Mary of the Angels Nathalia. Their wins put them in a first place decider against St. Joe’s. The scores were quite tight with the boys shooting a couple of three pointers, but they ended up going down by just a few points. Both teams should be proud of their efforts and the way they conducted themselves for the day. Well done!

Footy Colours Day and Zayd’s Footy Match

On Thursday morning we began our day with the Beaut Blokes Breakfast in the lead up to Father's Day on Sunday. Many students and staff showed off their teams colours from AFL teams to our very own St Augustines colours.

At lunchtime, a very special event took place at the Ky Recreation Reserve for the Years 7-12s. A range of staff and students in the 10-12 year levels participated in a Footy Match in Memory of our friend and mate, Zayden Pell.

On Tuesday, those who signed up to be a player were very sophisticatedly sorted by Mr Hill’s spinning wheel. We presented the umpires for the day including Mr Sutton who dusted off his whistle just for the event. The coaches, Cohan and Mrs Goode and Mr Carver and Ava, presented their teams to the community and prepared for the big game ahead.

Thursday lunchtime was full of excitement and nerves as the players headed over to the Ky Rec. Spectators called past the Tolle to grab a hot dog cooked by the Student Leaders.

Players were the first to arrive at the rec to get warmed up - staff needing those extra minutes to get their bodies ready. Our umpires followed by warming up their whistles and flags. Coach Carver was the last of the team to arrive with Co-Coach Ava preparing to begin without him. As the game kicked off, the starting 18 were full of excitement and nerves.

Cohan and Coach Goode’s team started the game off strongly with Ethan C kicking the first goal of the game followed by two more goals from Max C. The St Aug's team finished the half with a score of 20 with Coach Carver's red and black team finishing the half with only three points. At the half we saw a change in the Red and Black strategy with the addition of Coach Ava chucking on a jersey.

As the second half began, Coaches Cohan and Goode were feeling very confident in their team to get the win for the day but the red and black team made a come back with Ava P kicking two goals followed by Cal L’s long bomb into goals which put red and black just a couple of points ahead of St Aug's team. This didn’t rattle St Aug's as Billy H kicked a goal to put them back in front. This didn't stop Ava P from kicking another goal. With a couple of minutes to go, the scores were very close. To seal the deal Lachie C took a mark inside 50 on the siren. He sealed the deal with a final goal wearing Zayden’s number 8 jersey.

After some score adjustments from the scorers and umpires the final score was 36-38 with Red and Black taking the win. At the conclusion of the game everyone gathered in front of the Wilf Cox to be presented with their medals. After an extensive conversation amongst the umpires, Best on Ground was awarded to Max C and Ava P who played in the spirit of the game.

As a school community we would like to thank the Pell family for allowing us to host this game in honour and memory of our great friend and mate, Zayden. Thank you to everyone who played a part in the day as well as the 7-12 community for cheering everyone on from the side lines.
