Dear Families,
Book Week is always one of my favourite weeks in the school calendar. As an avid reader, one of my favourite things to do as a young girl was to visit the local library after school with my Mum. We would choose new bedtime story books and I would look forward to the time of day when my little sister was in bed and it was time for Mum and I to snuggle up for story time. This was one of the reasons I decided we would try something new as part of our Book Week - Story Time and Cocoa (although we did replace the cocoa with Milo). I know it was a chilly evening but it was so lovely to see families popping in, listening to stories and then sharing a picture book or two with a cup of Milo. The staff and myself enjoyed sharing this special time with you. Some of the children were suprised with my choice of story, who knew that I was a little bit naughty!? This will certainly become a permanent fixture on our calendar, we hope to see it grow in coming years.
Thank you to all of our families for the effort you went to for our Book Character Parade - the range of costumes never ceases to amaze me. The staff certainly embraced the day too - a special mention goes to the Senior teaching team who took on the Wizard of Oz theme this year. I thought it would be hard to top the 'Things' they dressed as last year but all the characters were there, from the Wizard himself (thanks Mrs Szabo) Glenda the Good Witch (Miss Hall of course), the Wicked Witch of the East (I'm not so sure about that Mrs Chandra), Dorothy (Miss Baillie), the Tin Man (Mr Sanchez had his work cut out for him removing his make up), the Scarecrow (Mrs Peiris) and the Lion (Mrs Beshara). Mr M saw it as an excuse to bring out his Prince Charming outfit again and anyone visiting the office was greeted by a pair of Cat in the Hats.
Time is running out to make a purchase at the Book Fair - tomorrow is your last chance! There are a number of reasons for us hosting the Book Fair, engaging our children in reading being top of the list. It fills me with such happiness to see children leaving at the end of the day with new book purchases, and there is always such an amazing range to choose from. The school always benefits as well - every dollar spent at the book fair provides us with credit to spend. We get new books for our school library as a result!
Please don't forget to join us for our Grandparent's Liturgy tomorrow. Morning tea will be provided (for the Grandparents and special visitors) and the Book Fair will be open. Our special visitors are also welcome to visit the classrooms and share a reading activity with the children.
Father's Day Celebrations
Could we be any busier? As with Mother's Day, we won't be holding a Father's Day stall this year. Instead the children will be bringing a special gift home for their Dads and other special men. The morning will start with breakfast, this will be served from 7.15am. Dads and other special guests will be welcome to join the children out on the playground before our Liturgy starts at 9.15am.
Please make sure you have responded to the invitation to our Father's Day Brekkie - we don't want anyone to miss out on one of our yummy bacon and egg rolls.
Swimming News
Our Year 3-6 students have begun their swimming program at Casey RACE. Please ensure your child is prepared with their bathers, towel and any other items in readiness for swimming on each day, we have had a few forgotten towels already!
Once again, parents and carers are welcome poolside at Casey RACE. Purchase of food items for the students and entry into the change rooms are not permitted due to Child Safe Standards.
Have a wonderful week!
