School-Based Apprenticeships/ Traineeships

SBAT is a School-Based Apprenticeship/ Traineeship.  In Vocational Major (VM) you spend 3 days a week at school and 2 days at a work placement/training.  There are a wide range of different opportunities for young students planning to get on the tools earlier or pursue the jobs they want, without having to drop out of school.

I chose to do VM because I heard from a family member that there was an SBAT program that ran and gave students the opportunity to do workplace and school at the same time, I really liked that idea because I wanted my Year 12 certificate.

In my SBAT I’m doing Cert III Automotive, I have really enjoyed this year so far at Patterson Cheney Holden, whilst also doing my training at Ringwood Training. I would highly recommend this program to anyone that is keen on pursuing their dream job or wanting to figure out what is good for yourself whilst also completing your Year 12 certificate.

Benefits that I have gained from my training and work placement has been significant, having the opportunity to work on commercial vehicles/cars and being able to understand how an engine works, this is a big benefit for me as when I buy my first car, I will be able to fix it and service it myself and same with friends and family cars, with a lot of future opportunities that branch off from automotive.
