Principal's message

Kylie O'Donnell

Dear Parents and Carers

I hope everyone had a wonderful Fathers Day and enjoyed the beautiful weather. It was terrific to have so many Dads joining us last Thursday for our Father’s Day breakfast and liturgy. Thank you to our BBQ helpers and staff who arrived early to set up the games, book fair and liturgy.

This Friday the P&F are hosting a fundraising night of magic with the opportunity to purchase some STMM label wine. I look forward to catching up with everyone who can make this event and encourage those who cannot attend to purchase their wine online to support the P&F’s 2023 fundraising efforts.

The countdown to my European adventure is on. As the departure date draws closer, the family is  becoming increasingly excited about reuniting, with my eldest daughter April, in London. After spending a week in Kensington we plan to visit Amsterdam, Munich and Berlin before taking a tour through Eastern Europe. April has been living in Potsdam, located 25 kilometres southwest of Berlin so we will be relying on her local knowledge to show us around.

Staff Development

Please be advised that the children’s last day of term is Thursday 21 September. They return in Term 4 on Tuesday 10 October. The staff will be participating in professional development days on Friday 22 Sept and Monday 9 October. We will be continuing our work with colleagues in the Randwick / Botany network to implement the new K-10 English and Mathematics curriculum. This year we have dedicated time and energy to understanding the demands of the new online English and Mathematics Syllabus documents. In particular we are working on increasing the rigour in our writing lessons and providing timely, explicit feedback to help students improve their craft. This term we have also been focussing on different strategies to break open the Scriptures and make the messages from these sacred texts more meaningful in the lives of our students today.

School Arrival Processes

This week we have noticed an increase in the number of children arriving at school late or well before 8.30 am. The school is required to provide supervision from 8.30 am but we always have a teacher on the playground from 8.20 am, this does not change on the days that netball practice is on. If you are dropping children prior to 8.20 am they must sit on the silver seats until the teacher comes out for duty. In addition the school processes around late arrival require that you accompany your child to the office to sign them in. An increasing number of parents are arriving late and allowing their children to buzz in at the Clovelly St gate. Please be reminded if the gate is closed you are required to park and walk your child to the office to sign them in.

School Photos

Final reminder to order school photos. Go to the Advanced Life website, enter the school code DLL 9XC C4Z and select the photo package you would like.

Amadeus Music Concert

Next Friday 15 Sept the students from 3-6 will be performing with their Amadeus tutors to showcase their learning. The concert will start at 9.00am in the church, we hope to see you there.
