Message from the Principal

Achieving Excellence Together

Dear Parents,

Next week we celebrate the first-ever Albanvale Primary School - LITFEST

This is the reinvigoration of what formally was known as Book Week. After consultation with students, families, and staff last year the School Improvement Team (SIT) was looking to extend the opportunities for our students and community to connect over our love of literacy.  We also wanted to recognise the the inclusion of Writing and Spelling and priority areas in our school goals. With this in mind, our celebrations next week include:

  • Book Character Dress Up Parade - Monday (Students and Families are encouraged to dress up and join us at Assembly on Monday 9am
  • F-2 Student Spelling Bee Championship - Wednesday
  • LITFEST including reading cafe, Writers Gallery, and the 3-6 Spelling Championship - Thursday
  • High 5 Book Fair (All Week)

Our Book Faire offers students the opportunity to redeem their High 5 Cards for the latest books, novels, and other texts available. This is part of our mission to help every student have access the high-quality, engaging literature at school and at home. Students will get the opportunity to visit the Fair and complete a wish list before going with their class to collect their books.

I encourage each of you to join us on Thursday morning on the basketball court (Gate A Diamond Avenue) from 8:45 - 9:30am. A Coffee Van has been arranged for parents offering free coffee and hot chocolate (adults only) and a light breakfast is available. During this time, families will be encouraged to find a cosy space with their children and engage in some reading together over their morning delights. You will also have the chance to see your child's writing published in our Writers Gallery, listen to some students read aloud, and cheer on our Spelling Bee Champions. This fantastic opportunity to foster the home-school partnership is not to be missed. I look forward to seeing you all there.

Learning POWERS!

Last year, we introduced the Learning Powers across our school with our major concert. SInce then, students have continued to practice and apply their learning powers in the classroom every day. To remind families, our agreeed learning powers are:

Reflective – by thinking about my learning

Determined – through my commitment to continuous improvement

Independent – by taking ownership of my learning

We are asking families to talk about and highlight these learning powers with their students any chance they can. These are part of our schools overall mission to achieve excellence together and sit alongside our school values in how our studenst can demonsrate excellence as show in the image below.
