Physical Education

Dear Families,

Hope you are staying warm, some beautiful weather to keep us active on these cold days!

Another busy fortnight of PE and sport.  Please see below.

District Athletics Carnival

A big congratulations to all of our year 4-6 students that participated in our Athletics Trials on Wednesday 9th August.  It was so great to see all of our students giving every event they participated in 100% of their efforts.

Thank you goes to our teachers and our parents - Ash Holmes and Catherine Bacus for assisting us on the day, we really appreciate it.

Congratulations to the following students that have made it through to the next round - The District Athletics Carnival which is scheduled for Thursday 7th September. An operoo has been sent out and has a list of the events your child has made along with the schedule for the day.  Please note if your child is in the 1500m race, they will need to be driven directly to the venue as this race begins at 9.15am and our bus will not get there in time for a warm up and marshalling.

District Athletics Carnival Training - We will provide an opportunity for the students to practise some of the events they are entered into, particularly the field events. These sessions will run from 8am until 8.30am on Wednesday 23rd August and Wednesday 6th September.

Downball Tournament

10 of our SJV students participated in the inaugural Downball Australia tournament on Friday 11 August and by all accounts they had the best time.  Please see below some of the images that Lisa Noden’s Mum was able to capture (thank you).

A big shout out to Lisa Noden for being our SJV representative for the day and ensuring the students were where they should be.

Wall Ball Program

We are coming to the end of our Wall Program that has been running from years 1-6 (with year 5 and 6 to happen over the coming weeks).  This has been such as successful program run by Lydia Morgan.  We have had students playing at recess and lunches and 23 students turning up to the weekly program she is running on a Sunday (see details below).

A big thank you to Lydia for volunteering her time to the St James students over the past few weeks, we really do appreciate it.

Hockey Program

This term the year 3-6 students have been participating in a Hockey Clinic run by Hockey Victoria.  It is because of Sporting Schools grants that we are able to expose the students to sports and programs they may not otherwise have been able to be exposed to.  Due to the popularity and success of this program the 2024 District Summer Gala Day will be looking at introducing this sport as one of the four students have the opportunity to participate in.

Stay well, keep active
