Room 23

The students in Room 23 have been learning about Australia's state emblems and our neighbouring countries. We have been studying non-fiction texts in English and are excited to begin our next Six-Thinking Hats project on animals. In Maths last week, we investigated nets of cubes and continued to learn our times tables by playing lots of fun games. We recently had a visit from some Japanese exchange students who taught us origami. This was a highlight of the term so far!

Room 24

What an exciting start to Term 3 for room 24. A new teacher meant there has been lots of changes in the class. A big change is we have moved to flexible seating. We are still waiting for some new furniture to arrive and look forward to them arriving. Everyone loves choosing their workspace each day and has begun to make responsible choices to make sure they are in a space they know they will work well in.

We have also enjoyed swimming lessons this term, everyone loved going on the bus to and from the Riverton Leisureplex each day. Well done to all the children who showed how responsible they were in making sure all their belongings stayed in their bags each day!

For Health this term we have started learning about Kimochis. Kimochi is a Japanese word that basically means ‘Feelings’. It is a social and emotional program that helps build resilience, helps them deal with feelings, and helps to build strong friendships. The children in Room 24 have loved meeting the characters each week. So far, they have met Cloud, Bug, Hugtapus, and Cat. As we talk about each character we talk about big feelings and little feelings and what tools we can use to make big feelings small. They love having them visit them as they work! We also have a Kimochi couch in our room where they can visit the characters. They have become a big part of our week and all the students look forward to learning more about them.

Room 25

100 Days of School

This term, we celebrated 100 days of being at school in Year 3. We completed a range of activities including 100 second challenges. See what we did on this special day!

Origami

This week we were fortunate enough to have Japanese students teach us how to do origami. We were looking forward to learning from them all week and we finally got to meet them! They were really friendly and knew a lot about origami. We had so much fun learning from the Japanese students. One of us was even able to talk to them in Japanese! Look at all of the origami we made.

Information Texts

We have been working for many weeks to use information texts to research a topic of our own choice. Some that we chose were comets, dolphins, robots, the sun, and many others. First, we completed a range of reading activities on our information text and then we learned how to use note-taking sheets to locate and record key information. With the information that we collected, we worked hard to create our own information text on the topic in the form of a 4D diorama presentation.

 Design Technology

We are getting really excited about our design project this term. We are making a scarecrow for the Royal Show! Keep an eye out for Burrendah’s entry. We have only just begun testing materials and identifying their different properties and uses. So much to look forward to…

Room 27

Our Year 3/4 classroom is having another busy term. We had an in-school activity which was a fun hands on activity for the students. Unfortunately, no details about this top secret activity can be revealed until the 3rd of September!!

In class, we have been learning about fractions and symmetry in our Maths lessons. The students enjoyed using mirrors to check for symmetry.  In English, the students are putting their powers of persuasion to good use and writing some great persuasive texts. Be warned, they have learnt lots of powerful persuasive strategies to use on their parents.

Our next excursion is to Browne’s Dairy on 12th September. The students are very excited about visiting the dairy and learning more about how food is produced and gets from paddock to plate.
