YEAR 10 CAMP

In Week 4, our Year 10 students attended their Snow Camp. Five groups were treated to two days of skiing or snowboarding before heading into the backcountry of Kosciuszko National Park for some snowshoeing, backcountry skills and camping. The remaining five groups began their journey in the backcountry and then transitioned to skiing or snowboarding at the end of the week.

Although a bit cold, the students were in high spirits throughout the week. Many students had never skied or snowboarded before, and by the end of the week, they were zig-zagging down Green Runs and the Magic Carpet. In between their ski lessons, students enjoyed a hot lunch at Perisher, and a snowman-building competition. Back at the hotel, students kept warm  in the pool room and were even treated to a Magician one evening.

The backcountry challenged our students’ resilience and leadership skills. Students learned backcountry survival skills such as creating amenities, finding water, and building a camp kitchen out of snow. Of course, there were also a few snowball fights, thanks to a dumping of snow later in the week.

The students returned weary from their activities on Friday night but full of stories of challenge and joy from the week-long journey. Despite a small bout of gastro amongst a few students and teachers, the students have reported that their Year 10 camp was successful and enjoyable. Many thanks also go out to the teachers who braved the cold and supported their students throughout the week.

We are looking forward to 2024!
