NAIDOC WEEK

During Week 11 of Term 2 we celebrated NAIDOC Week with a variety of activities and events. The week began with a small liturgy involving our special guest Mrs Annette Humble who gave the Acknowledgement of Country.

Throughout the week students were involved in weaving, craft, cooking and music activites based on the 2026 NAIDOC Week theme. Thank you to Mrs Tina Swain for making our delicious cupcakes.

The official theme was "50 Years of Deadly", marking five decades of the national NAIDOC movement, celebrating community leadership, and honoring cultural resilience.

LITTLE STARS BOOKCLUB!

We are absolutely thrilled to officially introduce our brand new initiative here at Sacred Heart: Little Stars Bookclub!

Over the past few weeks, we have been working closely alongside our wonderful local preschool to build a beautiful bridge between early childhood learning and our primary school community. This initiative is all about sparking an early love for reading, storytelling, and discovery in our littlest learners before they even take their first official steps into the classroom.

How Does It Work?

Each session, the children gather for a special storytime adventure read aloud by one of our school teachers. But the fun doesn't stop when the book closes! Following the story, the children are fully engaged with:

  • Library Borrowing: Selected picture books are roatated between the children while we work up to individual selection.
  • Take-Home Activities: Fun, hands-on activities packed up for pre school or families to enjoy together, extending the magic of the story long after they leave the school gates.

We are so proud of this partnership and can't wait to see our Little Stars Bookclub grow. Keep an eye out for photos of our upcoming sessions!

Sacred Heart students recently showcased their artistic talents by participating in a coloring competition to celebrate the Idemitsu Boggabri Coal 20th Anniversary Open Days.

We are thrilled to announce our category winners:

  • K-2 Winner: Laurie
  • Yr 3-6 Winner: Georgie

Both Laurie and Georgie were presented with exciting gift packs for their winning designs! Every student who entered did an amazing job and received a celebratory sticker for their bright and colourful artwork.

Thank you to Idemitsu Boggabri Coal for involving our students in their milestone celebration, and congratulations to all who took part!

A New Australian Flag

Over recent months, our Years 3 to 6 students noticed the worn condition of our Australian Flag as they carried out their morning duties raising the flags at the front entrance. Taking great pride in their school environment, the students raised the issue with staff, leading us to contact the office of Mr Jamie Chaffey MP, Member for Parkes.

We were delighted to be gifted a brand-new Australian Flag and were honoured to welcome Mr Chaffey to our school for a special presentation. Thank you, Mr Chaffey.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

Gallery Image

The NSW Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is a statewide annual initiative aimed at fostering a love of reading in all students. Students complete the PRC by reading a range of books. Some books must be from the PRC booklist, while others can be personal choice books. In the PRC, K-2 students read 30 books and Years 3-6 read 20 books. Reading completed in class may also count towards the challenge. Parents and carers who would like to keep a record of reading completed at home can use a physical reading log. Please contact Mrs Franklin if you have any questions.

Library

Remember, library borrowing day is every Wednesday. Please bring your library bag and return your books each week, or re-borrow them if you need more time to read.
