Sustainability Team Update

A few weeks ago, following last years’ successful olive yield, the Sustainability Team, including our Student leaders climbed great heights to collect  a beautiful bounty of olives.

Much fun was had by all and these olives are now ready for brining, a task confidently undertaken by Nick who has assured Mrs Rose, that while his techniques may still be experimental that these olives will again be fit for consumption and at the very least garnish for a Martini some time soon. We will keep you posted on how that goes.

Meanwhile the Junior, Japanese Gardens and our productive pods continue  growing well. Cauliflowers, Candy Crush kale, lettuce, carrots and cabbages will be ready for picking soon, while the rhubarb continues to bask in the softness of the winter sun. There is a touch of weeding needed in our carrot patch, to give them a little more space to grow.

As we passed through the Winter Solstice last weekend, the shortest day, before the return of longer days & more light - the carrots continued to  wait patiently beneath the cool soil.  Growth is like this -  seasons when growth looks productive and obvious, and seasons when growth looks like rest, waiting, gathering energy and becoming ready.

Our carrot patch is a  timely reflection of the value of stillness, cosy blankets, warm cups of tea, and making space to rest and recharge before the new arrives.

Winter blessings, everyone, and a safe school holidays.  We’ll see you in the garden soon.
