LOTE - JAPANESE

Time flies!

We had another fun and engaging term.

Foundation students have been nailing counting from 1 to 100.

Year 1/2 students mastered asking and telling their age and naming family members. We also had great fun making origami family-member puppets.

Year 3/4 and 5/6 students explored Japanese food, including onigiri (rice balls). We practiced how to order food in Japanese, and some students took their learning beyond the classroom by speaking Japanese at a Japanese shop and trying real onigiri.

Thank you to our parents for supporting our learning. I am so grateful to teach these wonderful children.

PE - TERM BREAK PRACTICE IDEAS

With Athletics coming up early in Term 3, the school holidays are a great chance for students to stay active and practise some of the skills we have been working on in PE.

For Foundation to Year 2, students might like to practise vortex throws, jumping over small safe objects as “hurdles”, bean bag pushes, and short relays. Relays are always a favourite and are a fun one to do with parents, siblings or friends at the park or in the backyard.

For Years 3 to 6, students can continue practising the athletics events we have focused on this term, including long jump, triple jump, shot put, hurdles, relays and high jump-style jumping skills. These can be adapted easily at home or at a local park by marking a starting point, using cones or jumpers as markers, practising safe one-foot take-offs and landings, or using soft balls/bean bags for throwing technique.

Most importantly, the focus is not perfection, but keeping active, building confidence, and having fun while practising movement skills. Even 10–15 minutes of practice a few times over the break can make a big difference heading into Athletics next term!

A huge congratulations to all students for completing the first half of the school year. You should be very proud of your effort, energy and enthusiasm in PE. Have a safe, happy and restful holiday break. As a Canadian, I’m not allowed to complain about the cold, but I hope everyone else stays warm!
