What's happening in our learning spaces?
FOUNDATION
Today is Day 44 as we continue to count towards 100 Days of School in Foundation. So much learning is currently taking place across each school day and we congratulate the Foundation students for the way they are following the routines.
This week in Foundation, we had time and opportunity to find out about our school’s Patron Saint, Saint Fidelis, and explore the significance of ANZAC Day. As researchers, we looked at pictures, listened to information and read different picture story books. As thinkers, we sorted out our thinking about ANZAC Day by drawing a colour, symbol and image that represented our understanding. We drew pictures of Saint Fidelis and wrote different adjectives to describe him, such as kind and helpful. We also engaged in a shared experience with our buddies to further explore who Saint Fidelis was, make ANZAC Cookies and make our own poppies. We had so much fun!
In The Resilience Project we have been learning to understand what gratitude means and how being grateful makes us feel. As thinkers we created the definition of gratitude as “being lucky for the things we already have”. We viewed a video about “100 things that make us feel happy” and reflected about the things, people and places that we are grateful for. We then drew the things, people and places on individual pieces of paper and connected these to create a gratitude chain. As a follow on activity, we then recorded these in our Resilience Journals and reflected that these things in our lives make us feel happy!
All students are required to be wearing their full winter uniform as of today, Monday 29th April. School hats will be sent home to be washed so that they are ready to be returned to school in September.
In week 4, on Wednesday 8th May, there will be a Mother’s Day Stall. Students are asked to bring $5 to $10, and a bag, to purchase a gift.
Kind regards,

YEAR 1/2
It has been a short but eventful week in the Year 1/2 Cohort!
As people of a faith learning community we respectfully celebrated the Feast Day of our parish saint, Saint Fidelis. Throughout the week, we had time and opportunity to learn about the life of Saint Fidelis and how he devoted his life to teaching, leading mass and sharing the good news. He helped the poor, sick, weak and needy and this made him a really special person. As thinkers we had time and opportunity to reflect on his life and the good things he did. Through class discussions, we had time to consider how we might be able to continue his mission in our learning community. As a whole school we attended the feast day Mass and it was wonderful to see Year 1/2 students read prayers and hold the message stick.
On Wednesday, we also had the opportunity to celebrate ANZAC Day. As readers, we have listened to a variety of stories about the ANZAC soldiers. We have made lots of new discoveries about the importance of remembering the men and women who went to war to represent our country. As thinkers, we have responded to the different stories by retelling the important events that shaped ANZAC Day. After participating in a special commemorative ceremony with the whole school, we had the opportunity to engage in different activities with other year levels throughout the day. We learnt how to make ANZAC biscuits, we created beautiful ANZAC artwork pieces and developed meaningful ANZAC acrostic poems.

YEAR 3/4
We hope you all enjoyed the extra long weekend!
As members of a faith community, we gathered as a whole school on Wednesday 24th of April to celebrate the feast of Saint Fidelis. We engaged in a whole school Mass where we remember him for his generosity and care for the poor throughout his life. Thank you to our beautiful readers, Tess (3/4BP) and Ella (3/4SH).
As a school community, we gathered together to celebrate ANZAC Day. Miss Zozut’s class led the whole school in a special ANZAC ceremony. ANZAC Day is a time to remember the men and women who served and died in all wars and conflicts.
As collaborators, the students across Grades 1-4 worked collaboratively in groups to complete some beautiful ANZAC art, make yummy ANZAC biscuits and complete learning activities about Saint Fidelis’ life. Thank you to our wonderful helpers Signora Rosa, Mrs Monaghan, Mr Jennings, Mrs Gasbarro, Mrs Parnis, Miss Ange, Mr Luca, Miss Elena, Mr Aaron, Mrs Panzarino and Miss Hogan.
As readers, we engaged in many ANZAC Day texts to deepen our understanding of this special day. One particular book we read was called ‘The Last ANZAC’ written by Gordon Winch. During reading, we noticed hand-written letters throughout the book that Alec Campbell wrote to his mother during the war.
As writers, we creatively wrote our own letters to a family member or friend. We used sensory language (see, touch, taste, smell, hear, feel) to describe and show what soldiers would have experienced during the war. In 3/4SH, we were inspired by the book ‘ANZAC Billy’ by Claire Saxby and wrote letters about the different items we would pack in a billy to send off to a family member at war.
Have a lovely week!

YEAR 5/6
We hope you enjoyed the long weekend with your family and had an opportunity to attend a ceremony or some sort of commemoration for ANZAC Day.
As curious collaborators, Students continued to develop their light box creations about Sovereign Hill. Students are using different cut out images they have created to represent a story, they have created scripts and began filming and editing their videos.
On Wednesday, we had an extremely busy day, beginning with Mass to celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Fidelis, after that we gathered in the hall for the Year 5/6 ANZAC Day commemoration ceremony and celebration of receiving the Australian Government ‘Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program 2023-2024’.
After recess, we collaborated with our Foundation Buddies to engage in a rotation of activities, including ANZAC Biscuit Making (We hope you enjoyed your biscuit on Wednesday afternoon!), Saint Fidelis book illustration and an ANZAC Day Poppy craft mosaic.
Reminder: Miss Maddie is away this week and Mrs Dillon will be with 5/6MC.
We hope you have a wonderful week!
