What we have been up to...

Last week we read the book 'The Plot Chickens'. A chicken named Henrietta, led us through the story, which pointed out the elements of a good narrative. Students discussed many parts of the story and can be seen in the photos below creating their own funky chickens representing those from the story.

As part of our learning about Sustainability during Topic, each 1/2 class has buried some 'lunch rubbish'. We will wait a number of weeks before digging up the rubbish to investigate what has happened to it.

Learning in Week 5 and 6

Reading, Writing and Spelling:  In week 5 we will be reading the book 'The Great Rabbit Chase' and in week 6 we will look at a local Aboriginal story called 'Mooie's Story'. Reading and Writing activities will stem from our books and will include publishing a narrative.

Our sounds in week 5 and 6 will be 'air' (as in chair) and our heart words will be hair, fairy and oo (as in book) and our heart words will look, took, put.

Mathematics: Our focus during Mathematics will be Subtraction. We have noticed that many students need practise counting backwards and understanding the connection to subtraction, this may be something which could be incorporated into activities at home.

Topic:  As part of our topic we will be focusing on the concept of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. We will also have an incursion where the City of Greater Bendigo will visit Grade 1/2 classes to discuss sorting our waste appropriately.

Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships: The overarching focus for Respectful Relationships this term isPersonal Strengths. Students will be involved in a range of games and activities which identify their personal strengths.
