Grade Preps are continuing with their topic on Farm Animals, and practising the signs for: farm, farmer, tractor, animal, cow, bull, sheep, lamb, duck, pig, horse, dog, cat, donkey, snake, kangaroo, mouse, goat, rooster, chicken, rabbit, goose, frog, and fish.

See how many of the farm animal signs your child/ren can teach you at home!

Preps are continuing to add to their Old MacDonald Had a Farm mini-books.

They have started work on a Farm Animals jigsaw that they will be bringing home to sign soon.

Grade 1-6s are finishing their Deaf Culture topic this week, continuing to practise the signs for: Deaf Culture, Auslan, sign language, interpreter, deaf, Hard-of-hearing, hearing, people, respect, eye contact, hearing aid and Cochlear, and some disability signs including: disability, intellectual disability, Autism, mental health, blind, and vision impaired.

Grade 5-6’s have been learning more about the Cochlear implant including some facts about Melbourne inventor and surgeon Dr. Graeme Clark, as well as how the Cochlear works.

Grade 3-4s have continued to look at First Nations perspectives within the topic of Deaf Culture. They have worked with a partner to choose an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander sign language to create a simple information poster about.

Grade 1-2s have learned about the Australian Lions Hearing Dogs. They designed their own new logo/icon/emoji to represent something important in Deaf Culture, or something that represents the Deaf Community! There were so many amazing and innovative ideas for new technology and new logo designs presented by the Grade 1-2’s.

We also played some Animal Celebrity Head to revise some Zoo Animal names.

😊 Enjoy the attached photos!

Sandhurst Division Cross Country

Congratulations to all of our students (75 of them), who represented the school at the Sandhurst Division Cross Country Championships last Wednesday, 1st May. Over 3500 students from 65 schools across the region converged on the Bendigo Racecourse for this annual event. Great weather allowed for perfect running conditions and it was wonderful to see our boys and girls pushing themselves to their limits. They should ALL be proud of their efforts.

We had a number of outstanding individual performances, highlighted by Max H who won the 10 Years Boys elite ‘Blue Group’ race. Jed H also finished 4th in this same race, which had over 200 competitors.

Taj W finished 5th in the 11 Years Boys Blue race and Lotti Mc finished 11th in the 10 Years Girls Blue race. These races also featured over 200 of the best runners from schools in our Division.

Max, Jed, Taj and Lottie will all now go on to represent the school at the Regional Cross Country Championships in St Arnaud on Tuesday the 28th May (note - only runners from the 10 to 12 Years BLUE Category get to compete at Region). We wish him all the best.

Special mention to the following students:

Sonny R – 8th in the 9 Years Boys BLUE event.

Grace F – 13th in the 9 Years Girls BLUE event.

Isabella J – 13th in the 10 Years Girls BLUE event.

Thomas A – 17th in the 9 Years Boys BLUE event.

Edith K – 17th in the 9 Years Girls BLUE event.

Lenny M – 17th in the 10 Years Boys BLUE event.

Archie C – 18th in the 12 Years Boys BLUE event.

Elke M – 6th in the 9 Years Girls RED event.

Sophie H – 10th in the 11 Years Girls RED event.

I would like to thanks the staff and parents who accompanied our students on the day. I would particularly like to thank Billsy Maher who worked on the finish line and was great support to our students as they crossed the line.
