Boarding News

Mr Jim Noble, Assistant Head of College - Boarding

Dear Boarding Families,

I was very proud of all our boarders who attended the local ANZAC Day Service at Ashgrove Memorial Park last Thursday and also the group of boarders who travelled to Murgon and Cherbourg to be part of the services in these towns. It is a privilege to join with our communities in observing this solemn occasion and maintaining such an important tradition. I was particularly impressed and proud of the way the boys participated. Their uniform and behaviour were excellent and they represented our school particularly well.

With the weather starting to cool down, a flu vaccination clinic was held last Wednesday for boarders. Parents were informed of this opportunity last term, and it was positive to see many boys turning up to receive this protection against the flu. Our boarding staff are regularly reminding the boys to practise good hygiene and to maintain a healthy lifestyle to avoid the illness which tends to come at this time of year. If you missed the opportunity for your son to receive the flu shot and still want to arrange this, we don’t have another clinic running, so please arrange to take your son to a local doctor or pharmacy to be immunised.

Later this week, I am heading to Goondiwindi for the Aspects Art Show which is a very popular event in the region. This year Marist College Ashgrove has secured the opportunity to provide the entertainment on the night with our String Quartet performing for those present. We will also be staying on for the Goondiwindi Show and our school will again be providing art and music clinics at the show on the Friday, with our Art teachers and students travelling out to Goondiwindi to support the efforts of the Show Committee. As a school, we are always keen to help out with events in regional and rural areas where our boarders are from.

Further to the above, next week Marist College Ashgrove will be contributing significantly to the massive event which is Beef Australia in Rockhampton. Happening only every three years, Beef Australia is an iconic trade show that attracts people from near and far who want to experience this event. We have a stall at Beef Australia for the whole week and we will also be hosting a function next Tuesday evening at The Boathouse for anyone connected to our school community. This function is also for those families interested in their son boarding at Marist College Ashgrove in the future. We hope to see many of you there.

Looking ahead, please save the date of the Boarding Family Function which is on Saturday 1 June and will be held at the College. We are making some changes to the event this year to allow more of our families to attend, so please keep an eye out for more information on this in the near future.
