Around the Grounds
NSWPSSA Swimming
St Xavier's had a strong representation of members in the Polding Swim Team who competed at the NSWPSSA Swimming Championships at the end of Term 1.
All of the swimmers should be congratulated for all of their hard work and dedication to make it to this high level.
Special mention to the following for their outstanding results:
Matilda Ramien placed 10th in her 50m freestyle race.
Josh Spinks placed 9th in his 100m race and 5th in his 200m IM race.
Max Smith placed 9th in his 50m backstroke race.
The junior Boys Relay Team placed 2nd.
Banjo Fitzgerald placed 8th in his 50m freestyle race and 3rd in his 50m butterfly race. His third place has qualified him for the National School Sport Australia Championships later this year.
Anne Singleton Cup
Congratulations to our St Xavier's Netball Team who went through the Anne Singleton Cup Competition undefeated.
Last Thursday, they played the round games and had a very close win against South School which secured them a place in the Grand Final on Saturday 4th May.
The St Xavier's girls did not let the rainy weather dampen their enthusiasm and they played a very tough Grand Final, coming out on top in the end.
Congratulations to all the teams who participated and a huge thank you to Gunnedah Netball Association for making this competition happen every year.
Polding Winter Trials
On Friday 3rd May, five St Xavier's students competed in the Polding Winter Trials for Soccer and Rugby League.
Cooper Ross and Josh Spinks (soccer) and Leo Henry, Charlie Mainey and Tom Smallwood were stand out players at the Diocesan Trials and were selected to represent the Armidale Diocese at the Polding Trials.
There was some tough competition and outstanding performances at the Polding Trials and although the boys played extremely well they missed out on further selection. They should be very proud of their efforts.
Newcastle Permanent Soccer Gala Day
On Wednesday 8th May close to 100 students from Years 3-6 attended the Newcastle Permanent Soccer Gala Day held here in Gunnedah. Students played against other schools from our area in a 5v5 format, learning soccer skills and rules over the course of the day.
Everyone had a great time and showed great enthusiasm and sportsmanship in their games.
Good For Kids Smoothie Bikes
St Xavier’s was lucky enough to have Rebecca and Jessica from Good For Kids come to our school and speak to each class about healthy eating and some easy swaps we can make in our lunchbox to better fuel our body for growing and learning.
Students were given the opportunity to use the special smoothie bikes where they used their leg power to blend a Hulk Juice and a Banana Berry Smoothie. They then got to taste both of their creations.
All students enjoyed the presentation and loved getting on the bikes and of course drinking their smoothies. We will have some information from Good For Kids in our newsletters this term to help continue the healthy eating messages.
Primary Cross Country
We had a great day for our Primary Cross Country and the new course.
We have a very strong team of runners who will be heading to Barraba for the Diocesan Cross Country next Friday 17th May.
