Principals Message
Dear parents and carers,
We are off to a great start to the term. The consistent practices in regards to learning that were set in Term One has meant we have had a smooth start. The term started with us hosting Dr Lyn Sharrett, from Canada, a leading expert in school system and culture reform. The Diocese has been working with Lyn over the last six years. In implementing her work we have transformed the culture in the schools of the Armidale Diocese and we have lifted the results of our students incredibly.
We welcomed over 165 educators from schools in our Diocese and from the Armidale Catholic Schools Office. Our work with Lyn was based on the area of assessment. The work is exciting and builds on what we have already started. The classrooms were used as spaces in which the visitors could observe and look for evidence of learning intentions, success criteria and examples of student work. The feedback for us was outstanding in its praise for what we have created at SXG.
During the workshop we received our initial NAPLAN results except for writing which is to come soon. The results are an indication of the precise, consistent teaching and learning of students and staff.
So far we can share with you the percentages of students who are already at or exceeding expected level for their grade.
Year 3-Reading 85%, Numeracy 62%, Grammar and Punctuation 62% and Spelling 63%
Year 5- Reading 76%, Numeracy 68%, Grammar and Punctuation 75% and Spelling 62%
Our vision of literate and numerate students for a hope filled future is being realised and we are extremely proud of the work we do and the way our families work with us.
Kind regards,
Jen
