WORK EPERIENCE

Work experience for all Year 10 will be held in week 9 (24th June – 28th June of this term. This is a part of their mandatory learning and we encourage all students to attend. If the dates for work experience are unsuitable for employers other arrangements can be made after checking the school calendar for assessments etc.

This is a great opportunity for students to find different types of employment and experience diverse career options.

Work Experience forms for students in Year 10 were sent out in Week 9 last term. If your student did not get the forms please remind them to come to the Career office to get them.

Completed forms need to be return no later than 7th June 2024.

Please encourage your student to participate and have a worthwhile experience.

 

WOMEN IN TRADES

The NSW Government is committed to increasing the number of women in in trades, particularly in construction having set a target of reaching 15% representation by 2030, we are presently sitting at 4% in NSW. To support this, TAFE NSW in partnership with Training NSW and the Department of Customer Service are hosting a Girls in Trade event Wednesday May 22nd 2024.

 

The proposed agenda for the evening is below. Please contact the TAFE if you have any further questions.

 

· 5.30 – 6.00 pm arrival and welcome (refreshments)

· 6.00 – 6.45 pm Virtual session

· 6.45- 7.00 pm Local tradie Q&A

· 7.00-7.30 pm Tour of trade training areas with TSC and tradie

· 7.30 pm Session closes

 

HSC INFORMATION NIGHT

An HSC information night will be held on Wednesday 15th May 2024 from 6 pm. This is an opportunity for parents/carers to find out more about the university entry process to assist their student in their future endeavours. It also covers other information that students and parent/carers need to survive the rest of this year.

NURSING SBAT

Applications are being called for SBAT nursing applications through Hunter New England health. If students are interested they need to come to the career office for a form. Applications close 23 June 2024. No late applications are taken.

 

SURVEYING

On Thursday 13 June there is the opportunity for an excursion to Tamworth Astronomy Centre for students in Year 10, 11 and 12 to gain information regarding careers in surveying. Please talk with your student to see if they would like to go. Students can come to the Career Office to put their names down.

 

AEROSPACE CAMP INVERELL

Aerospace is a free STEM and aerospace camp open to regional students between ages 11-14. The camp includes astronomy, virtual reality, talking to space experts, flight simulators, designing galactic habitats, using robotics drone flying and rocket launching.

The camp runs from 29th July to 1st August 2024 and is completely free.

This camp has been previously advertised by the school on Facebook, but there was an error in the schools able to participate. Glen Innes High School is definitely able to attend.
