Ramadan

Ramadan is an important celebration for Muslims and this year it will be celebrated from the 28th February to 30 March. During this time, Muslims fast, which means they don't eat or drink anything during daylight hours. Fasting from dawn to sunset is an essential spiritual practice in Islam, observed as an act of devotion, self-discipline, and reflection. It helps to develop gratitude and empathy for those less fortunate. Children do not usually fast until they are 14. After sunset, time is spent with family and friends sharing special meals called iftar which include dates, apricots, sweetened milk, many courses of vegetables, breads and some meats. As well as fasting, Muslims try to do good deeds, like helping others and giving to charity. At the end of Ramadan there is a big celebration called Eid a joyful day where food, gifts, and happiness are shared with family and friends.

Some families also decorate their home with lights .
