NEWS AROUND THE SCHOOL

HARMONY DAY -21st March
Today I'd like to tell all of you fellow readers about the Harmony Day fundraiser that we will be holding at our school.
This event is held every year on the 21st of March to promote peace, inclusiveness and harmony all over the world. In light of this event, as a school, we have decided to put our raised funds towards helping students from ‘Ray of Light’ school in Cambodia.
Ray of Light Cambodia is a non-profit organisation that works to break the cycle of poverty by providing education, improved health conditions and occupational skills for children in Cambodia.
We would like you all to bring a gold coin donation and if you can, we would also appreciate it if you all wear ORANGE on that same day.
The colour orange stands for social communication and meaningful conversation. It’s also associated with the freedom of ideas and having respect for one another.
Everyone is encouraged to wear this colour on Harmony Day as a sign of your support for diversity and inclusivity. AND also, one coin would also go a really long way!

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MATHEMATICS DAY - 14th March
We are running two competitions to celebrate UNESCO's International Day of Mathematics. The theme for 2025 celebrates the creativity found in mathematical discovery. You can enter, one or both competitions if you like!
Competition 1 - Collective Tessellation Art
Interested students can collect a colouring sheet from their teacher. Students need to colour in their sheet using pencil only. Tessellating art displays will then be created using the coloured sheets.
Coloured sheets must be returned to your classroom teacher by Friday 28th March 2025.
Winners will be selected in the following sections:
Foundation
Junior (Grades 1 and 2)
Middle (Grades 3 and 4)
Senior (Grades 5 and 6)
In order to be considered for the prizes, please ensure that your child's name and grade are clearly written on the sheet in the spaces provided.
Competition 2 - High Score Factris - Online game link: https://mathigon.org/factris
Factris is similar to Tetris, where you have to arrange falling blocks using arrow keys, and when you fill an entire row, it disappears to make space for new blocks. There are 2 differences in Factris
The blocks are always rectangles. Instead of rotating them, you 'refactor' them. Eg a block might start as 12x1 tiles, but you can press the up key to change it to 6x2, 4x3, 4x4, 2x6 and 1x12.
Every tile in the 1st row is worth 10 points, 2nd row is worth 20 points, 3rd row is worth 40 points, 4th row is worth 80 points and so on.
There is no undo, so pay close attention to the rectangles coming next.
Winners will be selected in the following sections:
Foundation
Junior (Grades 1 and 2)
Middle (Grades 3 and 4)
Senior (Grades 5 and 6)
