Year 3&4

The Year 3&4 students started learning about the size and shape of the Sun, Earth, and Moon, discovering that although the Sun is much larger than the Moon, they often appear to be the same size in the sky. To investigate this phenomenon, they conducted a hands-on experiment outside, exploring how distance affects the way objects appear to us.

The learning continued with an exciting introduction to shadows! Students played shadow tag, searched for different shadows around the school, and used torches with objects to see how shadows change size and direction as the light source moves.

Year 5&6

The Year 5&6 students have been learning about the order of the planets in our solar system! To help remember them in the correct order, they created their own fun and creative mnemonics. From “My Very Excited Mother Just Served Us Noodles” to other imaginative phrases, these memory tricks have made remembering the order of the planets easier.

Students have been creating colourful posters featuring illustrations and fascinating facts about each planet. Students have enjoyed learning facts such as a day on Venus is longer than its year!

Science and Environment Captains 2025

I am excited to introduce Aaron, Gavin and Hetav as our Science and Environment Captains for 2025.  We can’t wait to see all the projects and events they have planned for the year ahead at Karoo.
