In History we have been learning about the great explorers that set off to discover other parts of the world. Discussions have been had as to why these great journeys took place, the risks they faced and the trials they encountered. Individually we have selected one explorer in particular to study. Where did their journey take them, what did they discover, and what happened to them and their crew?
In STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Maths) this week, students had to build a bridge 50 cm wide to support the weight of a something appropriate from the classroom. Considerations were given to the design, the shape, bunching of paddle pop sticks, and which materials were suitable to use for sticking. An added challenge was to see how long the bridge could hold the object. Some great minds and clever hands completed the task without any hiccups.
What an eye opener the videos from Project Compassion were for our Religion classes. In particular one school had to close when they ran out of water which was a regular occurrence. In previous years, money from our Project Compassion drive has contributed to purchasing tanks to ensure the school can have a continuous supply of water so the children do not miss out on anymore school.
They say that doing something for others brings great joy and that is what we found when we participated in our Ruby Mae Day activities. Thank you to Mrs Phillips who organised these for us which provided us with the opportunity to join in a day of friendship, caring, kindness, and being grateful.
We have had a big week with the family BBQ and cross country. The students are always excited to see their families at school events and we greatly appreciate your time.
