AGTV GERMAN POETRY COMPETITION
The Rangeview competition will be held in the German room at B1 (11:15 am) on
Thursday, 13th June (Donnerstag, den 13. Juni)
Any interested Grade 4, 5 or 6 students can audition for the annual AGTV German Poetry Competition. Students are required to recite a German poem to a panel of judges (Frau Taylor, Frau Lindner and Frau Keller) and will be judged according to their pronunciation, intonation, phrasing and overall expression.
Students who would like some assistance in preparing for this competition may see one of our friendly German teachers during eating time (11:00 – 11:15 am) on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Audio recordings of all the poems are available on Seesaw.
The regional final will be held at Mullauna College in term 3.
We wish students ‘viel Glück’ (good luck) and happy practicing!

DID YOU KNOW?
By our German Captains,
Elise & Justin
- The founder of the first company to manufacture blue jeans was German-born Levi Strauss from Bavaria. His firm of Levi Strauss & Co. began in 1853 in San Francisco, California.
- German and English share many words with similar meanings and origins, as can be seen by our Level 3 & 4 topic on ‘Kleidung’ (Clothing):
die Jeans = the jeans
der Pullover = the pullover
das T-Shirt = the t-shirt
die Jacke = the jacket
- The traditional dress of Germany are ‘Dirndls’ and ‘Lederhosen’. Dirndls were originally worn by servants and peasants. They fell out of favour after WWII, but have enjoyed a resurgence in recent years. Today’s designers are “breathing new life” into this traditional dress, and it’s not unusual for women to wear Dirndls to family celebrations or other special events.
