Grade One
General:
It’s hard to believe we're nearing the end of Term Two already! We have been very busy over the last few weeks having FUN at school with lots of BIG events! Students enjoyed engaging in tasks in preparation of celebrating their mothers and special people in their lives for Mother’s Day. They should be proud of their efforts and commended for their incredible manners during the annual Mother’s Day stall. National Simultaneous Storytime this year was a huge success. We enjoyed listening to the story Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker.
English:
This term, Grade 1 students have continued to build their writing skills, learning about the purpose and structure of an information report. Students have blown the Grade 1 teachers away with their creative books, written to engage the reader and make their writing interesting. During Reading this term, students continued to engage with non-fiction texts to help with their research skills, together with their non-fiction retells. Finally students learnt the skill of editing and revising to improve their work. They should all be so proud of their final published information reports and all of their efforts this semester.
Mathematics:
The Grade 1 students have continued to work hard and show effort during Mathematics this term. Over the last few weeks students have engaged in a variety of open ended tasks that have helped revise and consolidate their learning. They have also given students many opportunities to enter into the learning and continue challenging themselves. We have used a range of manipulatives to measure the length of different objects around the classroom. We also had great fun hefting and comparing the mass and capacity of objects both inside the classroom and outside in the yard.
Integrated Studies & RRRR:
This term we have continued exploring Change in Integrated Studies. Students have enjoyed engaging in hands-on activities that allowed them to wonder, predict and explore a variety of changes in the world. Students have discovered changes in the water cycle, how a plant grows, changes throughout the years at Oatlands, the life cycle of a frog and how the change of a habitat can affect the plants and animals that grow and thrive in that environment. Students have loved all of the hands-on activities within this unit and it has been great to see students tap into their critical and creative thinking throughout this term.
