Hope for the future

At the moment I have been reading part of the Bible each day, working through a plan to read through the whole Bible by the end of the year.

At the moment, we are up to the book of Job in the Old Testament. Job went through all kinds of trials and disasters - throughout all of these he remained faithful to God.

It can be easy to worry about what the future might hold. Even when we try not to, sometimes those 'what if?' thoughts can creep in. And there is unfortunately not a shortage of things to worry about in today's world!

We can take great strength from Job's faith as demonstrated in the Bible and his enduring confidence in God's goodness, mercy, and plans for him.

We can also take confidence from the fact that God knows our past, present and future. This means that he is always there for us, knows what the future holds for us and will walk alongside us in that.

We see this in the New Testament book of Mark which tells us about Jesus' life. He knew that his mission was to bear our sins and bring them to the cross. Jesus was born to die for the atonement of our sins, and he knew this was always the case for his future.

God, thank you for guiding our lives and for walking with us in the past, the present and the future. We pray that the Spirit would work in us to continue to strengthen our trust and faith in you, and to help us to continue to bring everything to you in prayer. Amen.
