Science Incursion and Excursion

This week we have had the Grade 1/2 and Prep children exploring science further through both incursions and excursions. The Preps visited the Melbourne Museum and IMAX and explored the biological sciences. Grade 1/2 Had 'Mad About Science' come and visit for a chemistry incursion. Great hands on experiences for our children to explore science in their everyday.

Prep Excursion

"I loved the excursion because we went on a bus ride and I saw the Dinosaurs"  Ally, Prep R.

"My favourite part of the excursion was seeing the big whale" Thomas, Prep R.

"My favourite part of the excursion was seeing the bugs, the dinosaurs and going to the IMAX cinema" Selena, Prep RW

"I liked going inside the Volcano cinema and learning all about the dinosaurs." Chloe, Prep RW

Grade 1/2 Incursion

My favourite experiment of the day was the flying teabag. It worked by emptying the teabag, placing it upright on foil and setting it on fire. Once it burns it flys up into the air because the hot air rises. When it cooled down it floated back to the ground. - Jordan

My favourite part of the incursion was doing all the different experiments. It was hands on and a really fun way to learn. - Sofia G

The ‘Kitchen Chemistry’ incursion was so much fun. My three favourite parts of the day were

  1. Flying teabag because it was cool to watch the teabag fly up into the air.
  2. Making the sherbet to take home and eat.
  3. Watching the yeast blow up the balloon. - Charlie

I liked Making sherbet because it was fun to make and tasted really yummy! My group mixes lots of icing sugar into our mixture. I also liked the vinegar experiment with the baking soda, how it bubbled - Alessia

We learnt all about chemical reactions and how different kitchen items can have different reactions. - Isla

We learnt about acids, bases and neutrals and how these can react to one another. - Saskia

2024 Victorian Premier's Reading Challenge

Login for entering your reading

It is important that the children's reading is entered into the Premier's Reading Challenge website at home. Please enter their reading in using the login for Catholic and independent schools. If you are unsure of the books your child can read there are links to the reading list on the website. Most children's picture books and novels are accepted but the children do have to read books recognised by the Department.

I will then verify the reading once a month.
