PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Principal Announcement

Notification was provided to families via XUNO on Wednesday announcing that Mrs Jane Langley has been provisionally appointed as the Principal at Gray Street Primary School to commence at the beginning of term 3.  Jane is a terrific Principal and is highly respected within the education sector and local community and will be an outstanding acquisition for our school.  We look forward to welcoming Jane to Gray Street

Region Cross Country

On Monday we had two students, Manaia and Alaska, compete at the Greater Western Region Cross Country Championships that were held in Warrnambool.  Both students performed exceptionally well, Manaia winning the 12/13 year boys event run over a 3km course, with Alaska placing 2nd in the 10 year girls event run over 2km.  This is an outstanding achievement by both athletes with both Manaia and Alaska now qualifying for the State Championships that will be held early in term 3 at the Yarra Valley Racing Club on Thursday 18th July.

Hamilton Eisteddfod

Our grade 3 to 6 choir has been rehearsing throughout lunchtimes on a Tuesday and Wednesday this term under the guidance of Mrs Garland, in preparation for the Hamilton Eisteddfod that will be taking place on Thursday of next week.  I am looking forward to attending with the group and we wish our singers all the very best.

Grade 1/2 Swimming

Students in the Grade 1/2 classes will participate in swimming lessons for the first two weeks of term 3.  Notices regarding the program have been sent home for all families and we ask these are please returned by the end of next week to assist with our organisation.

Fruit Snack

It can be a long time between breakfast in the morning and our recess break at 11:00am and students are given the opportunity to have a fruit snack in classes around 10:00am each day.  We have a small supply of fruit available each week for students who become hungry and have forgotten to bring fruit, however we are getting an increasing amount of students coming across to the office seeking fruit.  Please remember to pack some fresh fruit each day for your child to enjoy at this ‘Brain Food’ break time to get them through until recess.

Curriculum (Pupil Free) Day

Our next curriculum day will take place this Friday 7th June and no students are to attend school on this day.  Staff will spend the day completing assessment and reporting requirements in readiness for the distribution of semester 1 student reports.

Assessment and Reporting

Teaching staff are quite busy at present completing assessment activities to support the provision of student reports that are provided to families twice per year. At this stage we anticipate reports will be provided to families on Friday 21st June.  This year parents will be receiving reports electronically that will be accessible via XUNO.  Parents will be notified when reports are available to access.

Parent/Teacher Interviews

We will be holding Parent/Teacher Interviews in the last two weeks of term to give families the opportunity to discuss with teachers the student report that has been provided, the learning progress made and any future goals or expectations.  A couple of staff members will be on leave in the last week of term so the following dates have been allocated to interviews to ensure all families get the opportunity to chat with classroom teachers should you wish to do so:

Prep Interviews

The structure of our Prep teaching programs are quite fluid and to ensure all Prep teachers can attend each interview so these will take place over two evenings to enable each of the Prep teachers to attend each interview.  These will take place on:

  • Tuesday 18th June (Week 10)
  • Thursday 27th June (Week 11)

Grade 1/2A and 1/2B Interviews

Mrs Beaton and Mrs McCulloch will both be on leave in the last week of term and interviews for students in these classes will take place on:

  • Tuesday 18th June (Week 10)

All other classes and grade levels will have interviews take place on:

  • Thursday 27th June (Week 11)

This year interview times will be booked by parents using XUNO. Information regarding this will be sent home next week when the booking system becomes ‘live’.

King’s Birthday Public Holiday

It will be a public holiday on Monday 10th June and no students are to attend school on this day.
