Year 10 Work Experience Program Term 2

Our Year 10 students wrapped up Term 2 with a fantastic Work Experience Program, and the results speak for themselves!

Students ventured into a diverse range of industries, including primary schools, law firms, and healthcare, as well as trades such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and automotive. Others explored retail, hospitality, manufacturing, real estate, and the performing arts. Wherever they went, our students approached the experience with maturity, curiosity, and professionalism, stepping confidently beyond the classroom and into the workforce.

This kind of real-world experience is invaluable, giving students a genuine glimpse into potential career paths while helping them develop key employability skills. For many, it marked their first taste of workplace responsibility, an important step toward building independence, confidence, and practical knowledge they simply can't get in a classroom.

The feedback from employers has been very positive. Time and again, they highlighted our students' strong work ethic, enthusiasm, and respectful attitude, with several employers already keen to welcome more students from our school next time.

Our students share their own reflections on the week.

Minuki – Surveying

"During my work experience at Prime Land Consultancies, I spent the week learning about land surveying. The friendly and supportive surveyors taught me how to use surveying instruments, explained the purpose of surveying, and made the industry both interesting and enjoyable to learn about. This experience inspired me to choose surveying as my number one backup career option.

I would like to sincerely thank everyone at Prime Land Consultancies for their guidance and support, as well as Wheelers Hill Secondary College for organising the Work Experience Program and giving me this valuable opportunity."

Ethan – Defence, Army Museum

"If I had the chance to do my work experience again, I absolutely would do it again without any hesitation. Working at AMOSA has inspired me enough to volunteer at other local military museums. My week of work experience was one of the best weeks I have ever had. "

Hailey: Primary School

"Going back to my primary school for work experience was one of the favourite things I have done. I got to work with small groups of kids to help them with their reading, spelling, and math. I am so glad that I chose to do this as my work experience because I love it so much. "

We would also like to share a few comments we received from Employers.

"This was the first time I had hosted a work experience student, so I was a little nervous about keeping him engaged. By the end of our first day, I realised I had nothing to worry about — he was keen, eager, and always asked questions when he needed more information. Later in the week, we were mounting a TV and needed to cut a hole in a plaster wall for a recessed power point. After I explained the process, I felt confident enough to let him complete the cut-out while I supervised. He was thrilled when I congratulated him on a perfect result!"

"The student was excellent and showed a great deal of potential, not only for a career in the lighting industry but also as a future member of the workforce. He was very well behaved, acted maturely for his age, and we would happily welcome him back for summer work."

" The student demonstrated a strong interest in the role and quickly adapted. She was a pleasure to have in the workplace, she was reliable, respectful, and willing to learn."

A heartfelt thank you goes to our students for their hard work in organising their work experience placements, to the parents who supported them throughout the process, and to our dedicated teachers, whose hard work behind the scenes helped make this valuable opportunity possible.

Congratulations to our Year 10 students for making the most of this opportunity — you have done yourselves and the school proud!
