Aladdin Jr

Last weekend, our school community was taken on a magical carpet ride with our production of Aladdin Jr. — and it is difficult to truly capture the scale of the experience in words. At times, what our students, families and Production Team created together felt far beyond what we could have imagined. We were incredibly proud of our cast and crew, who invested enormous amounts of time and effort into bringing this production to life, particularly during the final weeks of rehearsals. Their commitment, courage, teamwork and perseverance shone both on and off the stage, resulting in performances filled with humour, heart and energy. A production of this size simply could not happen without the extraordinary support of our ACPS families. Our parent and parent alumni community are more precious than the diamonds and jewels in the Cave of Wonders. Through their bold decisions, expertise, determination, persistence, creative vision and many late nights of problem solving, they helped create unforgettable experiences and memories for our students. We know that significant time was sacrificed away from your own families and jobs, and we are deeply grateful for your generosity. The photos below have been taken by Gavin D Andrew and Jimmy Harris.

Grade 3+4s Music making

In our Music unit this term, our Grade 3/4 students have been exploring both recorder and ukulele skills through practical and collaborative activities. Students began by learning Eye of the Tiger on recorder, building confidence with note reading, rhythm and breath control. During our ukulele lessons, students learned the different parts of the instrument, how to tune ukuleles and different ways of strumming. They worked in small groups to create short songs or rhythmic patterns to perform for the class. It has been wonderful to see students willing to try new things, take risks when performing in front of others, and show encouragement and respect while listening to their classmates perform.

Grade 5+6 Music Soundscapes

This term, our Grade 5/6 students have been working in small groups to create original soundscapes to accompany picture story books for their younger buddies to enjoy. Students have explored how sound can help tell a story by using a range of everyday objects, instruments and sound-making techniques, including tapping, scratching, striking and using voice effects. Each group has included repeated sounds for important characters or words to help bring their stories to life. Students are recording and editing their projects using iMovie on iPads before uploading them to a Google Classroom page. Many groups are close to completion and are now refining their work by improving sound quality, smooth videography and adding title and credit pages.
