News from One/Two

Welcome back to Term 4 in the 1/2 Classroom

We have a very FUN and busy term coming up with our school production, swimming, and Colour Run.

Swimming in Week 3

An email was sent out to all families this week with details about swimming. The Foundation/Year 1 and 2 groups will be attending swimming at 1:30-2:15 p.m. from Monday to Thursday over Weeks 3 and 4. Because we are the last swimming session, parents will be allowed to pick up their children from the Yarra Centre pool. If you want to take your child home early, please see your child's class teacher on arrival at the pool to sign them out. If you are taking another child home early then a permission note from the child's parent must be emailed to the class teacher. Thank you for understanding.

Before swimming starts it would be great for you at home to start to practice giving your child independence getting unchanged/changed and knowing where and how to pack their swimming bag. This could be, making sure they put their socks in their shoes, bathers inside a towel/plastic bag, etc. It is really important to start practicing this as there isn't much turnaround time before or after the swimming lesson to get to and from school. Each day, students will come to school with their bathers already under their uniform. Please remember to label all items of clothing and check your Operoo for further details. Thank you!

To conclude our Robot Buddies topic from last term, we will be showcasing our robots from 2:30-3:15 p.m. on Friday the 13th of October. This will be partly during class time and after school to hopefully assist those parents who are working. My apologies for not being able to make this event any later on this day.

Our 1/2 week should look something like this for the first few weeks of Term 4.

Monday- (Mrs. Tarco) – Reader folders sent home.

Tuesday- (Mrs. Tarco) – Performing Arts (Mrs. Bourke), PE (Mr. Foley, please wear sports uniform), and Japanese with (Mrs Bowden).

Wednesday- (Mr. Foley) – Library borrowing if time permits. Please bring your library bag.

Thursday- (Mr Foley) – STEAM (Mrs Hermansen) and lunch orders are due today.

Friday – (Mrs. Tarco) Reader folders are to be brought back to school today, lunch order day!

Your child should have taken this timetable home already. Unfortunately, this timetable may be subject to change due to important practices for our school production and swimming in Weeks 3 and 4. If any changes do occur, we will endeavor to let you all know via email.

After all the fanfare of the school production has passed, our class will be studying a unit called ‘Celebrating Differences’. We recently found out that ECCOS will be having a special music and cultural day called Rhythms of the World. Unfortunately, this day is on a Saturday however if you would like to take your child to this event it would be a great learning opportunity to celebrate differences. More information can be found at http://ecoss.org.au/event/rythyms-of-the-world-2023/

Getting ready for this topic could you please chat to your child about what countries your family members come from? Your child has been given a worksheet on this in their reading folder. This doesn’t need to be done straight away, we have at least 4 weeks to complete this project but because of the production, we wanted to give you lots of notice. Thank you for your help with this.

Don’t forget if you need any assistance with your child's production costume please be in touch. Lastly, we hope to see you all at our Prep/1/2 assembly this Monday the 9th of October, we have some great songs to show you all!

As always our 1/2 door is always open so please be in touch if you have any questions or concerns.

Kindly,

Jacqui and Terry
