LAMONT BOOK FAIR TERM 3

A big thank you once again to the community for their support of this term’s Lamont Book Fair. We made over $800 dollars in commission, which will go towards the purchasing of more books and resources for each learning space. We hope the children enjoy their purchases over the holidays, with many new books to be read and fun activities to be completed.

MATHEMATICS – JUNIORS

This term the Juniors have been learning about Multiplication and Fractions. They have participated in different hands on activities where they have explored making ‘groups of’ for Multiplication and identifying simple fractions in different contexts. Photos will be published in the first newsletter of Term 4.

SENIORS - WRITERS NOTEBOOK

It has been an amazing term of learning in Writer’s Notebook, with students refining their writing and publishing skills. Scroll through below to see some of the student’s published work.

DT Update 💻

Juniors

For the last two sessions the juniors have been practicing their skills logging-in to the school laptops as well as their keyboard skills!

In week 9, the juniors put this to the test, logging-in and accessing Google Classroom independently. It is great to see their confidence and accuracy with logging-in improving each time!

Once the students were in Google Classroom, they completed a task on Google Slides. In this task, they had to choose a place that they would like to see a BeeBot. They then had to find and insert the picture of their chosen place and then copy and paste the BeeBot into their scene. Some students then challenged themselves to add speech bubbles to add dialogue to their scene. Others even created multiple scenes creating a story with their BeeBots! Great work juniors!

Seniors

This term the senior students have been working on their coding skills. Each student has designed and then created their own game using Sprite Lab on Code.org. It has been fantastic to see the enthusiasm, problem solving skills and collaboration shown by the students throughout this project. This week the students have been publishing their sites so that other students in the school can play the game they have created. They are also reflecting on the process of creating their games, analysing what they felt they have done well, areas that they found difficult and what things they would do differently next time they create a game.

All of the senior students should be so proud of their efforts throughout the term!

Coding Challenge!

For those who would like to continue their coding journey and would like to challenge themselves, there is a coding challenge that is coming up through Moonhack!

Moonhack is an international event bringing together kids from across the globe for a week of coding. Over the past 7 years, more than 190,000 kids have coded as part of Moonhack. Moonhack will run from October 10th to 26th, running alongside World Space Week which celebrates Space and Innovation.

Divisional Athletics was at Casey Athletics Track in Cranbourne, 9 Students who competed well for the day.  Andison Mole came first in 15OOm and 800m, which we expected!  Well done to her, she is an amazing and determined young lady that trains hard in addition to her team sports that she is part of.  Mikayla and Cory both came 4th in the 100m, well done to the both of them.  It was Mikayla's, Nathaniel, Eva, Advait and Declan's first time competing at Divisional Athletics. I would also like to congratulate Eva George and Advait competing in their throwing events, Advait coming 5th in Shot Put.  Also, our 11 year old boys, Sahej, Cory, Gavin, and Declan did extremely well in Relay.  Aso, Sahej competed in 11 year old boys Hurdles which is quite difficult to master, however, very proud of each and everyone of our students that competed.

SWIMMING

Just a reminder to parents that swimming will begin the first Monday back next term:

Monday 2nd October – LS1 Seniors, LS1 Juniors, LS2 Juniors

Tuesday 3rd October – LS3 Juniors, LS3 Seniors, LS2 Seniors

Students will need to wear their bathers under their sports uniform and bring a plastic bag with their towel, undergarments and thongs. Students will wear thongs to and from the pool to make changing easier and then put their socks and shoes back on once they return to school.

Junior Parents who have volunteered to assist the juniors, I will be checking that your Working with Children is registered with the school office and will be in contact with you prior to swimming beginning. Only parents I contact during the holidays will be able to assist in the junior changing rooms.

Swimming timetables have been uploaded onto the Operoo permission form as an attachment. Please print it off and ensure you have it available at home as swimming days change for the different Learning Spaces. Timetables are now in PDF format and can be downloaded on mobile phones. I will place reminders in Morning Gathering, the newsletter and through our app each week. We would like students to come ready for swimming each , without placing the extra burden on office staff to ring parents to bring swimming items because students have forgotten them.

Have a great holiday everyone and we look forward to seeing everyone in Term 4 with new sporting events.
