Year 3-6 camp @ Gundiwindi Lodge

Mon 23rd Oct - Wed 25th Oct

Camp was fantastic fun with lots of great activites and lots of time to enjoy the company of other students. In small groups we went from the giant swing, to archery, to the low ropes course, to damper making and the famous flying fox at Gundiwindi.

Among the many highlights was the Glow in the dark night walk and then the campfire with marshmallows.

Our initiative games were great fun and very inclusive.

On the final day we enjoyed a wonderful wander through Healesville Sanctuary.

Camp Reflections

The year 3 - 6 children went to Gundiwindi Camp Lodge For Schools and we did a lot of activities and we had an extreme amount of fun. The activities that we did were: Giant Swing, Flying Fox, Damper Making, Archery and last but not least we did the Low Ropes Obstacle Course. The Giant swing is where we are harnessed and we got to choose what height we wanted to go up to, but the highest was 16 metres, and then once we chose it we had to pull the rope in front of us and then we swung. Next, the Flying Fox is very similar to a zipline that is 100 metres long and 5 metres above the ground. We also got harnessed just like the Giant Swing and it was amazing. Another activity we did was Damper Making. In that we learnt to make damper and it was actually very easy. One of our teachers, Mrs Dennehy, was helping us make that damper. We all sat around the fire and cooked our delicious damper. Now for Archery. In that we were in a shed that had 4 groups to go at once and there was a balloon in the middle and we had to try and pop it with the bow and arrows, Mrs Thornton taught us how to shoot the arrow safely. The last one is the low ropes obstacle course and in that we were separated into a few groups of 3 so that when one of the people is doing the course the other 2 can spot them. We also had to try and not fall off the level because if we do fall we get a point and the aim of the game is to have the least points.

In front of all of our cabins there was an oak tree where we could climb it and sit there. There also was a small playground where we could play and have a lot of fun. We also had a volleyball place where we could play volleyball with everyone. A few other things we had were a cricket pitch, a footy oval and we had some animals there. This is what the year 3 to 6 children on their Camp experience.

Camp Reflections

We arrived at camp and we got started with the activities. We participated on the low ropes course, giant swing, flying fox, archery and we also cooked damper.

On the first night we got to spend some time in the recreation room. We did a trivia quiz with our activity groups then we watched a movie. On the second night we walked into the bush and after our bush walk we went to toast some marshmallows.

Camp Reflections

I was extremely impressed with all our grade 3- 6 students who attended camp.

Lots of activities were planned and it was great to see that when we had relaxation / free time our students happily engaged themselves in whatever the camp had on offer. There was an amazing giant tree with beautiful branches to climb on, an ongoing cricket game which kept a number of students happy,  as well as the trampolines and beach volleyball. The animals as always were a great drawcard and they were well fed during our stay!

Parents, be proud of your children - they were well mannered and well behaved and really enjoyed the many opportunities that camp creates to grow. Our tug of war was great fun! A huge thank you to all our staff who went on camp - our Camp co-ordinator Andrew Noordhoff, Daniel Lewis, Ben Elliott, Mandy Dennehy and Karen Peach.

I was thrilled to be part of the experience and enjoyed the chance to get to know our students better. On our last day we visited Healesville Sanctuary and enjoyed wandering through all the enclosures.  Mrs Thornton

SLEEPOVER AT SCHOOL

Some of our Grade 2 students experienced a sleepover at school which included pizza and ice cream and Ice magic! Students helped with the dishes and cleaning up. This was followed by a movie in the multi purpose room- before our happy campers snuggled down in their sleeping bags.

The next morning was a quick pack up and a lesson in how to put that sleeping bag back into its bag then pancakes, cereal and toasties before sending our weary campers home after a very successful night.

We were very proud of all our students showing great resilience in giving everything a go and when things get tough and they missed home they knew they could get through it. This is all great preparation for grade 3-6 camp next year.

Many thanks to Jess West and Leyla D for running such a great event- we had lots of fun!
