Superhero Aarav
This week’s superhero is receiving this special award for Respect and Pride, although he exemplifies all our school values.
Aarav is extremely respectful of others and our school. He actively listens and contributes to classroom discussions, collaborating well with all his peers.
Aarav respects the school environment and always takes time to ensure the reading room is tidy or the computers are placed back neatly and on charge.
He genuinely cares about others and takes time to share his knowledge and help other students. Aarav has beautiful manners and comes to school every day with a positive attitude ready to learn. He takes responsibility for his learning and work hard both at home and school to achieve his goals.
Aarav takes Pride in everything he embarks upon, this was especially true recently on the Grade 2 camp. This Grade 2 student was adventurous and tackled challenges with quiet determination, especially the Dual Flying Fox! He is very proud of his culture and enjoys sharing stories and interesting information with his classmates. Aarav is always proud of his friends and their achievements as well as his own, especially when it comes to tennis.
Congratulations Aarav, we hope you had a great week!
Superhero Aleena
Our Superhero for this week is receiving the award for the school values of Excellence and Care.
Aleena has a kind and caring manner and always treats others with compassion and understanding. She is respectful of other students when they share their ideas and can be relied upon to work thoughtfully and effectively as part of a group. Aleena enjoys sharing stories about her family, particularly her little brothers. Her cousin has recently moved to our school, and she has been so thoughtful and caring, looking for all opportunities to check that her cousin is happy, is making friends and is settling in well to KPS.
Aleena always presents her work beautifully. Aleena is a dedicated student who always tries hard to achieve her personal best. She listens attentively to instructions, asking for clarification when she isn’t sure. She willingly accepts feedback with the goal of improving the quality of her work.
Studio 5B is so proud to have Aleena in our class.
Congratulations Aleena, we hope you had a great week!

Bandanna Day
Just a reminder that we are currently taking part in raising funds by selling Bandannas at KPS for Bandanna Day on the 27th of October. This is a fundraising and awareness campaign for the organisation 'Canteen'.
Money raised will go toward helping young people impacted by cancer get access to programs, counselling, and peer support.
Student Council members will continue to sell bandannas outside the canteen area during the first half of recess and lunch. There are 8 colourful and fun designs to choose from and the cost of a bandanna is $5.
Additionally, these can be purchased from the bandanna box as you enter the office.
Thanks for your support!
Gardening & Sustainability News
Ride2School Day
On Thursday, the second last day of Term 3, the Gardening and Sustainability students encouraged all students where possible, to either walk, ride or scoot from home, or at least further away than the usual drop off point. This was the third time this year that the school has done this, and it will happen again in Term 4.
Not only does it reduce the amount of traffic on the road which is great from a sustainability point of view, but most importantly it gets students and families moving, which from a health point of view is also great.
The weather was sunny, and it was excellent to see more bikes and scooters in the bike area.
Reduced Plastic August
For the month of August, student were encouraged to reduce the amount of plastic in their lunch boxes each day.
Each studio had a calendar tally sheet and teachers wrote a tally mark for each student that came to school without single use plastic. I know myself, how hard it is to not use single use plastic as it is on almost everything, but many students did achieve this and daily! Food items were repacked in reusable containers or recyclable wrappings.
Our school bins are overflowing with plastic, and it is required from time to time to reduce this by asking families to think about the wrappings they use and where possible to make small changes that might become regular.
While this was just one month, it would be great if all the changes made in August can become daily habits. The studio that had the largest number of tally marks received a free dress day and this was Studio 9.
A big shout out to all studios and teachers for participating in this and keep an eye out for the Nude November challenge.

Production News
Hello KPS families,
The production is fast approaching! Today we had a dress rehearsal at the school and students were asked to wear basic blacks instead of their school uniform and bring any additional costumes from home.
The School is supplying many costumes, and I have lots of dress ups at hand, however, I hope some parents can help by sourcing costumes for your child. I really appreciate your help with this and know its not a long timeline. 😊If you don’t have any of the items listed the costume department (me!) will be happy to source the extra items for your child.
If you can help out with any extra costumes, please email me. If you cannot source the additional costumes by Friday, your child can bring them next week.
All students need to wear basic black as we don’t have access to changing rooms. Please see what you have at home or happy op shopping or beg/borrow … pics are only a guide, let your imaginations be free! Please open the attached document to find out your child's costume.
2024 Foundation Enrolments
We are working through our enrolment applications for our 2024 Foundation students. If you have a child you wish to enrol for 2024, please drop into the office to collect an enrolment pack. These can also be sent home with your current student if you wish.
Information has been sent out to families who have enrolled regarding our transition program commencing next Term.
More Canteen Helpers Still Required
We are still in need of canteen helpers on Thursdays and Fridays.
We have a very small number of fabulous parents that assist in the canteen, but it is just not enough to have consistent help.
The shifts required are as follows:
Thursdays - 1 parent helper required from 12pm - 2pm
Fridays - 2 parent helpers required. One from 11am - 2pm and another from 12pm - 2pm
Please email the school at kyneton.ps@education.vic.gov.au if you can help. All volunteers will need to show a valid a Working With Childrens Check and complete a short OHS Induction before commencing.
We really appreciate your help to enable us to continue to run our wonderful canteen.
Missing Items
If you know the whereabouts of these items, please return them to Jaimen Laird in Studio 12.
MANZELLA gloves – bright blue, clip together, with a red dot on the tag inside one of the gloves.
Kyneton Bushland Resort beanie.
School Gates and Opening Times
In the morning all gates will be open for access to the school site at 8:45 as this is when under industrial arrangements staff supervision in the yard commences. No students are allowed onsite until this time.
In the afternoon all gates will be open at 3:15 for access to the school site. Access to the office during the school day is via the pedestrian gate on Edgecombe St.
The new ramp/path between the school and the kindergarten is now operational. Access to the school grounds using the ramp is between the hours of 8:45 – 3:40. On either side of these hours, the bottom of the ramp will be chained off. Access outside of these hours needs to be arranged through the school office or a staff member by calling 5422 1855.
A reminder to all members of the school community the staff car park is not to be used to walk between the school and the kindergarten for safety reasons. Now that the ramp/path is operational the pedestrian gate next to the car park gates should be used following the path, crossing the road in front of the boom gate using the marked pedestrian crossing and then down the ramp.
* Please do not access the school site at any time via the staff car park for safety
reasons.
* Please do not park in the kinder carpark unless it is your kinder day and you are a kinder family.
2023 Uniform
School uniforms are available for purchase online direct from A Plus Schoolwear www.aplusschoolwear.com.au
When ordering uniforms please put the studio number of your child for easier delivery.
Once uniforms arrive at school, they will be sent home with your child.
Contact Details
There are times when we will need to contact you during a school day. It is important we have your most up to date contact details on file.
Please update these on Compass or email the school at kyneton.ps@education.vic.gov.au so we can update our records. Please include parent/carers’ name, address, phone numbers, email address and emergency contact details.
Student Attendance
If your child is sick or absent, you are required to notify the school as soon as possible on the day of absence, by logging your child’s absence using our school’s Parental Portal in Compass.
Notifying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility.
Victorian government schools are required to contact parents/carers as soon as practicable on the same day of an unexplained student absence. If your child is absent on a particular day and you have not contacted the school to explain why, the absence will be marked as unexplained. It is a DET requirement that we have a reason for each child's absence.
This system also promotes daily school attendance. Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education, they learn new things every day – missing school puts them behind.
The Kyneton Primary School Attendance Policy which outlines the school’s processes and procedures for monitoring, recording and following-up of student absences is available on our website www.kynetonprimaryschool.com.au
Students Arriving Late
Students arriving late to school should come to the office, accompanied by an adult, and sign in either on the Compass Kiosk or in the late book. They will then be issued a late pass to take to class and their arrival at school will be updated on the roll. This will avoid parents/guardians receiving notification that their child is not at school when they have arrived late.
Accessing Compass
Compass is our main way of communicating with our families. It is important that parents access the Parental Portal in Compass at https://kynetonps.vic.jdlf.com.au
Using our parent portal will enable you to –
- View up-to-date class and school attendance information
- Approve or enter upcoming or past absences for your son/daughter
- Update your registered email and mobile number (used for SMS alters)
- Access information regarding upcoming events and news
- Access your child’s Semester Reports
- Book your Parent/Student/Teacher conferences
We encourage families to download the Compass App and to enable notification to ensure you receive all communications.
Please click on the “Welcome to Compass” booklets for further assistance or contact the office.
