2023 Eastern Metropolitan Region Athletics

Our Brentwood Athletics team has been as strong as ever in 2023. Having won the junior, intermediate, senior and overall shields at Monash Division, the team was confident heading to EMR. In total 64 students qualified for the EMR event, up from 59 in 2022 which is a reflection of performance against our local schools. Against extremely tough competition, six students made it through to the state finals in individual events, as well as two relay teams. These students will compete against the best in Victoria on Monday the 16th of October, with results being posted in the newsletter!

  • Julia Hipwell (14 years girls 200m)
  • Christina Theoharis (16 years girls 100m hurdles)
  • Ryan Lee (15 years boys 1500m race walk)
  • Nathan To (15 years boys triple jump)

Our very own Junior Matilda Soccer player at Brentwood Secondary College!!!

Amelia Tartaglia is in Year 10 and her soccer journey began at the age of 9 years, playing with boys and continuing with community girls’ soccer and then in NPL. She is now playing for the Victorian soccer team and has been the captain for the last two years.

Amelia was scouted at Nationals last year to trial for the Australian Junior Matilda's squad and successfully gained a position on the team. She competed against hundreds of other girls all over Australia and due to her hard work and resilience, she has been selected to represent Australia in the AFC U17 Womens Asia Cup Qualifiers 2024.

Amelia’s Matilda's journey began this year when she played in

Mongolia (3 games - 1st qualifiers) and more recent in Vietnam (3 games - 2nd qualifiers).

The girls successfully won all their games which in turn will take them to the finals which will be played next April in Indonesia.

This has been a lifelong dream for Amelia and a fantastic achievement to represent Australia.

Well done Amelia and good luck for the future!!
