Respectful Communication

At Kingswood Primary School, effective communication is crucial in the context of education, as it plays a vital role in ensuring that students, teachers, and administrators can effectively exchange information and ideas. To facilitate seamless school communication, a multitude of strategies can be employed.

To support our families please see the attached Department Guidance that explores the significance of school communication and provides practical tips for improving communication within educational settings. Please refer to the following link to DET Department Guidance: Family Engagement In Learning

E-mail Guidelines

These simple guidelines are offered in a spirit of partnership and respect and are based on the Department of Education Family Engagement in Learning and Kingswood Communication Policy.  We believe that if everyone is kind enough to follow them the strong, positive relationships we enjoy will continue.

The perspective of the class teacher

Class teachers think that at least 95% of parents use e-mail communication appropriately and reasonably. Thank you.

They are very happy to respond to parents who send occasional e-mails to them communicating a query, important information, or a lower-level concern.

Class teachers are busy: their job is an intense one and they work long hours.  Their priority focus is educating children and they only have a small amount of time available to read and respond to e-mails.

Please do:

  • use e-mail to communicate information about children's learning, homework, and any upsets or concerns that class teachers need to know about or book a request to have a face-to-face meeting or phone call
  • keep your e-mails succinct and to the point
  • understand that if an e-mail is sent in the morning or within the working day, teachers may not have time to open it until the end of the school day, or even later if they are involved in a meeting. The school does not expect e-mails to be read and responded to by class teachers on the weekend.  They are not at work at that time.
  • email the office if the matter relates to your child's lunchtime or after school clubs; lost clothing or other administrative matters.
  • avoid sending emotionally charged emails. If you have strong feelings about a matter, kindly request a face-to-face meeting to address your concerns effectively.

Please don't:

  • send long, highly detailed e-mails relating to a concern - simply send an e-mail with a short summary of the concern and request a face-to-face meeting or phone call.

Please know that if a class teacher has any concern about an e-mail they have received that fails to follow this polite protocol they will not respond, but instead forward the e-mail to the Principal Class who will make a decision regarding what course of action to follow. We seek and appreciate your cooperation in maintaining a safe and respectful working environment for our teachers, whilst preserving an open line of communication for all our families.
