Spring Soirée

Henry Hu, Year 10

Last Friday, students from both the Junior and Senior School showcased their talents at the Spring Soirée. Their performances ranged from piano solos to clarinet duets, and spanned many musical styles, including baroque sonatas, romantic bravura pieces and modern dances.

The Soirée also offered a great opportunity for students to refine their stage skills ahead of upcoming exams. Personally, I found it especially valuable to prepare for my upcoming AMusA diploma exam.

For many younger students, the Soirée marked their first experience in musical performance, providing an important opportunity for growth as they performed in front of an audience for the first time.

Overall, the Spring Soirée proved to be a memorable night, showcasing an eventful and diverse display of music.

String Concert

Jude Teo, Year 12

The String Concert this year showcased Kilvington’s large musical talent pool, with soloists and performers ranging from Junior School all the way to our Year 12s.

It was a night that celebrated the cumulative effort of our musical students through virtuosic performances, entertaining those present with a variety of stringed repertoire.

Composer’s Corner

Our featured student composer this week is Lily-Rose Jackson from Year 7. Below, Lily shares the process she follows when composing a song.

Lily-Rose Jackson, Year 7

I like to start writing my music by finding chord progressions that work well together, but also may have a unique chord in them. Usually, I can tell what the genre or vibe of the song will be after finding the chords. It's much easier for me to find lyrics once I have the basic idea, so I know what emotions to revolve the lyrics around. Once I have the lyrics and the basic chords, I can hear the harmonies and bass line in my head. Then, I use GarageBand to record all the different parts!

Twilight Open Evening - 18 October

Keep Friday 18 October free for our Twilight Open Evening, where our larger ensembles will be performing! A Consent2Go form will be sent to parents in the next two weeks.
