Learning In My Level
A celebration of what's happening across the school!
What a wonderful beginning to the year the Level 1 students have had! When entering the classrooms one is met with a gentle hubbub of activity and anticipation of the year ahead. The students' pride in beginning a new level has been evident.
Over the course of these last couple of weeks, the Level 1 students have begun to develop classroom norms and familiarise themselves with their new learning environments. It has been wonderful to see many new friendships forming, as they get to know unfamiliar faces and names. No doubt this will continue as the year progresses! The students have shown an eagerness to try their hardest at the learning activities at hand.
We have delved into what it means to have a growth mindset, as this will set the students up for life-long learning. A specific analogy we have used is of entering into a 'Learning Pit' (see diagram) and have discussed the emotions that often come when in the depths of struggling with learning something new. What a joy it is to emerge with new understandings and skills!
We look forward to journeying with your child as we learn and collaborate as class communities together.
The Level 1 Team
The Level 2 students have had a fantastic start to 2024! Everyone has been settling into new grades and making new friends. During the first couple of weeks we have really focused on creating positive classroom cultures. Students have helped create and agree to classroom rules and expectations. We have also focused on learning new routines and procedures to set up for a successful year!
Literacy
Throughout the term, students will practice new skills for Speaking and Listening. During ‘Talk Time’ students will be practicing using a loud and clear voice to talk about different topics such as their holidays, introducing their likes/ dislikes and favourite books. We will also learn how to be a good listener and practise full body listening.
In our Writing sessions, the students will learn how to write recounts and learn about the structure of a recount. We will look at orientation sentences, body paragraphs and how to write a personal comment.
Level 2 students will also be participating in weekly Word Work activities that focus on phonics and learning about different sounds.
Mathematics
Students will enjoy learning about a range of different topics this term during Mathematics. We will look at place value, 2D shapes, telling the time, addition, and subtraction.
Inquiry
Through the Resilience Project lessons, we will be learning about Gratitude. Students will explore what the word means and what they are grateful for in their own lives. We will also learn about how to stay safe online during our Cyber Safety Project lessons, we had lots of fun creating posters on Safer Internet Day. Students will learn about what personal information is safe or unsafe to share online and how to create and remember secure passwords.
Grade 2 students have also been learning about Chinese New Year and all of the wonderful traditions that are celebrated at the start of the year!
We are all looking forward to an amazing year!
