Teaching and Learning

Welcome to a wonderful year of learning at Rangeview

With the 2024 school year underway, I would like to welcome everyone to the Rangeview Primary School year. On Monday 29th January, our teaching staff spent the day as a team to prepare for the year ahead. I'm sure you will agree, our classrooms are looking fabulous.

On Tuesday 30th January, we welcomed out Level 1-6 students back. It was so fantastic watching students catch up with their friends and share stories from the holiday break.

On Thursday 1st February, our new Foundation students started their primary school education. The morning was so special with smiles on faces and 'Cheers and Tears' on the Library deck for parents.

New Specialist Classes for 2024

I am delighted to advise that we will be offering two new specialist classes in 2024 to our current classes of Art, Music, German and Physical Education.

STEM

Welcome to a new year and a new subject! STEM is now being provided as a specialist class to students from Foundation through to Level 6 by our fabulous STEM teachers Steve Atkinson and Ryan Evans.

From looking at scientific phenomena to using technology in innovative ways right through some amazing building and engineering challenges and of course engaging in the practical mathematics that support them all, our students are already having a blast. It's fair to say STEM is going to play an important role in our children's future, so it's fantastic that we're getting the opportunity to explore this amazing area together.

STEM will be reporting on the Digital Technologies curriculum in student reports at the end of each semester.

Mathematics

This year we have introduced a Mathematics Specialist Stream.  Our classes will focus on problem solving, the Big Ideas in Maths and critical and creative thinking.  We will be connecting Maths to real world problems and using open ended tasks to challenge students to think outside the box.  There will also be a focus on the four proficiencies of Maths, Understanding, Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning.  These are fundamental to how we learn Maths.

We have had such a wonderful start to the year across the school talking about what makes a great Mathematician, having a growth mindset and The Learning Pit.

Go Maths!

iPad Program

Over the last week, all Level 1-6 families should have received Student iPad User Agreements. Level 1 and 5 students and any new students to our school will also receive an Acceptable Use Agreement.

It is a requirement that user agreements are signed and returned to the classroom teacher before students can bring their iPads to school or use school devices.

A reminder that students are not permitted to have an iPad at school with a SIM card and connectivity. This is to ensure students cannot access inappropriate content via the internet. All student iPads will be connected to the school EDUSTAR network which is safe and approved by the Department of Education and Training.
