Work experience reminder for Cohort 2026

It's that time when students need to finalise placements for work experience. Students can access the Work Experience documents from the ‘Work Experience’ channel in the Cohort 2026 Team.  Key documents were also sent home to families in an email about Work Experience on February 19.

So far, we have had students experience placements in PR/Marketing, hospitality, building and construction, health and education . Many more students are set to do their placements this term in varied fields, ranging from medical/allied health to our local State MP Nathan Lambert!

Most of these placements have come through home contacts; family, friends, work colleagues and neighbours. Students are welcome to visit the Student Futures Office (C-Building) for more assistance.

School Council welcomes new student representative

At Preston High, students have the opportunity to be elected as student representative on School Council. As student representatives, our role is to represent the views and beliefs of the students both on council and in the broader community. Our work in advising council on student views and reporting the many different aspects of student life allow the students at Preston High to have both a closer relationship with School Council and voice their opinions.

Last year, one of the major accomplishments of the student representatives was to represent the school when former premier Daniel Andrews toured the new building.

Finally, I would like to thank Rosie Bennett for her representation of students over the last two years and to extend my congratulations to Andy Ye who is joining me on council this year, being a student rep is a truly amazing experience. Looking forward to our work together.

Cohort 2026

Year 10 (Cohort 2026) had a busy start to the year, as many of us have been bustling around organising our work experience placements. Selected by Cohort 2026 students, these placements - usually lasting five days - will help us experience work life in an industry of our interest. At Preston, Year 10s can undertake their work experience during any time of the year, allowing us to easily find fun and intriguing placements. Furthermore, as part of the Ada Program, Year 10s have also been hard at work developing their cyber-safety, well-being and financial literacy skills.

Cohort 2025

Now that we're in Year 11, we have a wider than ever range of choice when it comes to study areas and activities. As an extension of this, we've had some more varied in-school activities and many more excursions such as going to the NGV or, more locally, the Preston market. Media students are gaining access to an ever-wider amount of autonomy in using school equipment from their films for their practical assessments, and similarly practicals are far more extensive for the sciences. Some of our VM students even went to the F1. We have a lot to look forward to whilst balancing our homework in the upcoming year.

Cohort 2024

The overarching highlight from Term 1 has been starting Year 12; our last year of high school. It was bittersweet celebrating the ‘last first day’ of school before we got settled into our subjects and began having scheduled study sessions. Another major highlight was receiving our Year 12 school jumpers which was exciting and, in a way, officially marked the start of our Year 12 journey. Other highlights from Term One included our final school swimming carnival - with our subsequent Cohort 2024 Pool Party - and incursions such as from the police and our full-day Love Bites incursion.

News from Bandler Parks

Cohort 2027

With the year well underway, Cohort 2027 have already participated in many activities and tasks to begin developing the leadership and independence that the Bandler Parks program is centred around. Such events as school camp, a leadership day and scavenger hunt (pictured above) through the Melbourne CBD were great opportunities for the Cohort to develop leadership skills. Students were also introduced to study sessions and their Bandler Parks classes in Term One which helped them work on their organisation and confidence to speak up. Preston High is very proud of Cohort 2027 and excited to see what they’ll do in the term ahead!

News from Da Vinci

Fresh from celebrating Wellbeing Day (pictured above), Year 7 (Cohort 2029) is preparing for the DaVinci expo that will take place next Thursday (May 16) from 4:30pm to 5:30pm.  Students will showcase their amazing innovations created using the Design Thinking Cycle to solve everyday problems. The Year 8s  (Cohort 2028) have just presented their Social Enterprises to the Year 7s, that we created to solve issues important to us. We reflected on our growth as students throughout Term 1 and set SMART goals for Term 2. We are now working on Student Voice and Agency.
