Sydenham Campus

Principal Message

The end of Term 1 is quickly approaching, and we have continued to have so many activities and events to complement our curriculum for all year levels.

Primary School connections

During this term, we have hosted staff and students from our neighbouring primary schools continuing our efforts to improve our transition program. Mr. Adamou hosted Principal Team members to a morning tea and a tour of the Sydenham campus, and it was great to hear the feedback from those school leaders.

Some of the feedback centred on how much the primary school students (and their teachers) appreciate the chance to be on campus and experience secondary school life. Thank you to Mr. Buttigieg our Sydenham Transition Co Ordinator for his amazing work in organizing campus visits for our neighbouring primary school students. Grade 6 students from Sydenham and Hillside campuses of Sydenham/Hillside, Parkwood Green and Mackellar Primary schools have enjoyed PE, Science, Food Tech and Robotics classes as part of the program.

We have also had the pleasure of visiting campus assemblies for the above schools and Taylors Hill Primary School. A big thank you to the staff and students who have also worked hard to make the activities engaging and meaningful.

NAPLAN

During the last few weeks, students in Years 7 and 9 have been undertaking NAPLAN testing. NAPLAN testing covers ReadingWritingConventions of language  and  Numeracy. Students complete the tests online and NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress.

NAPLAN also provides schools, education authorities and governments with information about how education programs are working and whether young Australians are achieving important educational outcomes in literacy and numeracy.

Results will be available later in the year.

Thank you to Mr. Hasip and Mrs. Martin for their organization and support of NAPLAN again this year.

Clubs and activities

Thank you to all staff for their continued efforts in providing fun and engaging break time activities. Chess club, games club, art club, sports club and Skittles are just a few of the ways students can spend their time interacting with each other.

School photos

School photos are a constant of school life, they are with us every year and whilst they may seem a mundane task to get through, they do document the growing up journey.  This year’s photos will be available soon to families from the photo company.

Thank you to the staff who have shared their school photos for this newsletter!
