International Woman's Day

Delahey Campus

The theme for International Women’s Day 2025, "Accelerate Action," highlights the urgent need to advance gender equality through bold, decisive action, rather than gradual progress. Copperfield College embraced this call with a heartfelt and meaningful morning tea across all campuses. At the senior campus, Ms. Dedes opened the event with a poignant reflection on the lasting and transformative contributions of women throughout history, emphasizing the inherent power within every woman to shape the world. This was followed by an inspiring address from the Senior Student Leadership Team, who celebrated the extraordinary achievements of women worldwide while stressing the vital importance of collective action to build a more inclusive, equitable, and empowering society for women.

A truly unforgettable moment of the day was the presence of Dr. Victoria Borg, Deputy Mayor of Brimbank Council, whose participation greatly enriched the occasion. Dr. Borg captivated the audience with the inspiring narrative of her personal journey, demonstrating remarkable resilience and underscoring the crucial role that education plays in empowering individuals and shaping a more just and hopeful future.

We are profoundly grateful to Dr. Borg for her generous contribution of time, wisdom, and invaluable insights, as well as for gifting us a copy of her book, Power Over Darkness. Her inspiring words will continue to resonate with us, serving as a beacon of strength and guidance for years to come.

Sydenham Campus

On 7 March 2025, we celebrated International Women's Day under the theme, “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” This year's theme called for action that can unlock equal rights, power and opportunities for all and a feminist future where no one is left behind.

Our student leaders presented their thoughts and hopes on this year’s theme during our morning tea.

Thank you to all who assisted and supported female staff members to attend the morning tea, by stepping in to fill the roles that they would normally be undertaking.

Kings Park Campus

The Kings Park Campus came together on the Eve of International Women’s Day on March 7 to celebrate and acknowledge the social, cultural, political achievements, and at times, struggles of women throughout the ages to gain equality and recognition. Female staff were taken off any scheduled commitments during Recess so they could enjoy a morning tea provided by the College. Our college Captains, Sarah Scarcella and Umu Jalloh also spoke about their aspirations as future leaders and about female role models in their lives; for Sarah it was her mother, a polymer biologist and for Umu, her mother as well, a Disability worker.
