SAKG Program

The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden volunteer roster for TERM 1 is now available! 

When you arrive to volunteer, always enter the school via the main Tooronga Road gate and sign-in at reception before walking down to the SAKG.

 

To sign up, please click on the link below that matches the year level & class that you wish to sign up for. From there, select the class by clicking the tab at the top of the page. You will then need to enter your name and phone number. 

 

Please note that all volunteers, including grandparents, must have a current WWC to volunteer in any capacity at ASPS.

Year 4s in the kitchen

Zucchini with tomato and couscous

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium zucchini
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 mint leaves (sliced)
  • juice of 1/2 a lemon

For the couscous:

  • 250 gms couscous
  • 1/2 teaspoon tumeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 large ripe tomoatoes
  • 8 olives
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt & pepper
  • 250ml boiling water

Method:

  • slice the zucchini into thin rounds. Pat dry with paper towel.
  • heat olive oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat. Add sliced zucchini. Cook for about 3 minutes on one side and one minute on the other. Remove onto paper towel and repeat.

Couscous

  • dice tomato and keep the juice
  • measure out spices
  • Slice the olives.
  • Combine the couscous, turmeric, paprika, diced tomato with the juices, olives, salt, pepper and olive oil. Toss well. Pour over the boiling water and toss again, cover tightly with foil and set aside for 15 minutes.
  • Fluff the couscous mixture with 2 forks.
  • Spoon into 3 bowls, scatter over the zucchini, sprinkle over the mint leaves and pour over the lemon juice.

Help with our Chooks - please!

We are desperately needing volunteers for looking after our chooks in the SAKG.

 

The chooks have very simple needs - checking food & water and locking away after school.

 

It's simple fun and can be done at drop off & pick up.
