Library Collection Aboriginal Culture and History

Tarneit Senior College Library Staff and Principal Shane Cole-Hayhow had the privilege of welcoming Federal Member for Lalor, Joanne Ryan, to view the newly established Aboriginal Culture and History collection. Curated by the College Librarian, Julie Adams, the collection aims to provide students with a comprehensive resource to explore Indigenous Australian culture and history while also supporting their academic pursuits. Although many of the titles were already part of the library’s collection, creating a dedicated section ensures that these resources are easily accessible and readily available for students to explore.
The collection features a diverse range of materials, including non-fiction, fiction, and biographical books. Joanne Ryan expressed her pleasure in discovering notable titles such as Dark Emu by Bruce Pascoe and the powerful memoir Tell Me Why by Archie Roach among the collection. These resources play an essential role in fostering inclusivity and a sense of belonging within the College community.
Principal Shane Cole-Hayhow emphasised the importance of celebrating student diversity and community, aligning with the College’s focus for 2025. Ensuring that students feel represented, included, and celebrated is central to the 2025 College mission. The addition of the Aboriginal Culture and History collection to the Tarneit Senior College Library represents a significant step towards the inclusivity of diverse cultures and perspectives within the school.
