Finding Our Brave

The start of the academic year has been nothing short of dynamic, with the first three weeks packed with key events and memorable moments.

We kicked things off with Senior Students' Day, giving students the chance to settle into their new courses, meet their teachers, and ease them gently into the school routine. The week culminated in the highly anticipated Year 12 Ball at Mandoon Estate—a spectacular evening filled with music, dancing, and a wonderful sense of celebration. The Ball Committee, who dedicated months of planning towards the event, deserves immense credit for delivering an unforgettable night at what was for us a spectacular new venue.

Week Two brought a sense of tradition and leadership with the Year 12 Commissioning and Leadership Induction. This event not only recognised our elected Year 12 leaders but also highlighted the significant influence all Year 12 students have within the school community. A particularly exciting moment came at the end of the service, when students were surprised with their Leavers’ Jackets in Burt Hall. The excitement was evident as they put on their jackets for the first time, marking a defining milestone of their final year of secondary schooling.

We also had the privilege of welcoming back our top academic performers from 2024 at the High Flyers Assembly. A special thank you to Harry Stubbs-Denny and Jessica Bakes for sharing their insights and words of encouragement with our senior students. It was lovely to hear their stories of success.

Lastly, we sincerely appreciate the parents who attended the Year 11 and 12 Parent Information Night on Tuesday. We hope the evening provided valuable clarity and support as students navigate the year ahead at St George’s Anglican Grammar School.

This year’s school theme, Find Your Brave, is a call to action for every student to step outside their comfort zone and embrace the challenges ahead with confidence and resilience. For our Year 11 and 12 students, this journey will be filled with moments that test their determination, whether it be navigating demanding coursework, stepping into leadership roles, or preparing for life beyond school. Fear of failure can often hold us back but finding your brave means recognising that every challenge is an opportunity for growth and as their Head of Year I am here to support them.

There will be setbacks, but those who take ownership of their goals and commit fully will find themselves breaking barriers they once thought impossible. Finding your brave means embracing hard work, seizing every opportunity, asking for help and striving for excellence without hesitation. This is not the year to simply try—this is the year of do or do not, there is no try.
