Term 1 expectations? Tick!

A hearty welcome back. It is lovely to have the school buzzing again with the energy and enthusiasm of our students. As we settle in to Term 1, having reached the end of Week 3, it is timely to remind students of a number of important expectations we uphold at school.

UNIFORM

Students are wearing their uniform with pride, and it is fantastic to see that many have taken up the option of our new shirt, which is not required to be tucked in. However, a reminder to students with the old shirt – this is to be constantly tucked in. Many students are in need of a belt to help with this. Some hems on dresses need to be lowered, or a new summer dress purchased if a growth spurt has occurred over the break.

JEWELLERY

Students are reminded of the parameters around wearing jewellery while at school.

  • One pair (or a single) of plain gold or silver round studs (no larger than 5mm) or sleepers (no larger than 12mm), may be worn in the ear lobe in the first hole only. Multiple earrings may not be worn. Diamond/pearl earrings not permitted.
  • Visible piercings are not permitted. This includes the tongue and the nose.
  • Necklaces are not to be visible other than a simple cross and chain.
  • All other forms of jewellery which are not listed above are not permitted whilst in School Uniform.

LIFT USE

The expectation around the use of the lifts at St George’s is transparent to all students.

  • Year 12s ARE allowed to use the lifts.
  • Year 11 and 12 students ARE allowed to use the lifts at CQU.
  • Students with a lift pass (list is inside lift) or temporary lift pass CAN use the lift throughout the day.
  • Year 7 to 11 students CAN use the lift, ONCE, at the start of the day to take their bag to their locker.
  • After that time, they are to use the stairs throughout the day.
  • All students CAN use the lift at the end of the day.
  • If staff need to get in a lift, and it is full, students are expected to step out - even those with lift passes and Year 12s.

SCHOOL BAGS

All students will be allocated a locker for their use to commence the school year. Students are encouraged to put their school backpack and school sports bag inside their locker and only carry their necessary books and files to each of their classes. As a trial, school bags may be taken to each class to make the transition between buildings a little easier. This will be especially crucial when we begin moving between 441 Murray Street and 50 William Street.

Each classroom teacher will guide the students as to where they can keep their bags during class time.

Please note that only the SCHOOL BACKPACK can be used to transfer books/laptops between classes and to and from school. The official school backpack has always been a compulsory part of the school uniform needs for each St George's student and so every student should therefore have one. School backpacks can be obtained from Tara Uniforms.
