Beyond the comfort zone

Year 7 Camp

Adventure all the way

First thing Monday morning, our Year 7 students set off on their first high school camp—an exciting milestone in their journey at St George’s.

I am incredibly proud of each and every student who embraced the challenges and gave camp their very best effort. Camps are designed to push students beyond their comfort zones, and this group certainly rose to the occasion. We saw students conquer fears on the flying fox and abseiling wall, test their creativity with raft building (with some almost-successful rafts!), and showcase impressive archery skills. I was thrilled to see so many smiles on camp.

The goal of Year 7 Camp is to challenge yourself while also forming new friendships and strengthening connections within the cohort. It was fantastic to see so many new friendships take shape, and existing ones grow even stronger.

A special highlight was the visit from our Year 12 Leaders on Monday. They joined in on activities, met plenty of new faces, and helped build House spirit by organising a fun relay race! Thank you, Alison, Ben, Ava, Rory, Mackenzie, Sophia, Zuri and Amelie, for coming out and making this day so special.

Our evenings were just as action-packed, featuring House competitions, camp games, a wild dance party, and some team-building challenges. Many House Tokens were earned, and countless memories were made. I can not wait to see these friendships continue to grow and hope the Year 7s are already looking forward to next year’s camp!

This camp would not have been possible without Mr Dempers, our Head of Year 7 and 8, whose efforts made it all come together. A huge thank you also goes to our incredible staff who are the ones who make this occasion as memorable as it is—Ms Perejmibida (Head of Gandhi House), Mr Sloan (Head of Mandela House), Mr Lim (Head of Lincoln House), Ms Andrew, Mrs Collins, Mr McBride and Mrs Lefroy. Your enthusiasm, energy, and care made the experience truly special.

Well, done, Year 7s. The good news is, there's a Year 8 camp next year!
