Most of our new Year 7 Instrumental Music students are now enrolled and have started having their lessons and getting instruments assigned. Here are some general housekeeping reminders:
Instruments should be stored in the Instrument Store Room or String storage space upon arrival at school, retrieved for lessons, returned after lessons and collected at the end of the day. Please ensure that personally owned instruments are clearly labelled with student's name and no instruments are to be left on the floor of the Instrument Store room.
Instrumental Music Contributions can now be paid via the Event on Compass with full payment or commencement of payment plan due on 17 March. Please contact our Performing Arts Administrator, Nicholetta Rigano, in the Music Office if you require a tailored payment plan to be set up: nri@wantirnacollege.vic.edu.au
For students in Years 8-12 who are hiring a College Instrument, the Instrument Hire Event will appear on Compass in coming weeks. Payment plan also available.
AGM Tue 18 March, 7pm
The Parents of Performing Arts (POPA) Committee advocates, supports and encourages the Wantirna College Performing Arts Program. Members are welcome to participate in any, or all, of the following activities:
Monthly meetings with the Leader of Performing Arts to stay across the latest news and provide feedback
Serving Front of House refreshments at some of our Theatre events
Fundraising activities such as raffles, Bunnings BBQ & the Trivia Night (every two years)
Supporting other activities such as Production Gala Night
POPA fundraising efforts have assisted us to buy new instruments and equipment for our program, including Baby Grand Pianos, Violins, Oboes and Euphonium’s to name a few.
The Parents of Performing Arts Committee meet monthly in the General Staffroom with the Leader of Performing Arts, and report directly to College Council. It is an excellent way to stay involved in your child’s schooling, meet other parents and keep up to date with the program – and it’s fun!
All parents of performing arts students are invited to attend the POPA AGM & March Meeting on Tuesday 18 March, 7pm, in the General Staff room.
For more information or to join the POPA committee, please email Nicholetta in the Music Office: nri@wantirnacollege.vic.edu.au
All of our Instrumental Music students participate in our annual Soirees at the end of Term 1. These are informal first performances, without any fan-fare, often in small groups and in front of a small friendly audience of parents. In almost all cases, students are performing music they have only just been given, with many new students only performing a small part or a few notes. Term 1 Soirees are an opportunity for students gain confidence in front of an audience and share what they are working on with friends and family, and other students. It is always astonishing to hear and see our students' confidence and skill level at the end of the year compared to the start of the year.
Back by popular demand, the 2025 Wantirna College Staff concert promises to be bigger and better than ever before with a stellar billing of talented staff including most of our Instrumental Music teachers, plus crowd favourites Priesty, Ms Walker and Mr Orwin AND some special surprises!
This fundraiser raises money for the Instrumental Music program and is an entertaining evening for the whole family. Bring your friends!
