Year 7 Camp

Middle School

Last week, our Year 7 students swapped their schoolbooks for backpacks and set off on an adventure to Campaspe Downs, nestled in the bushland near Kyneton. Excitement buzzed through the buses as we rolled up the Calder, with students eager to see what lay ahead.

Over three action-packed days, our Year 7s tackled a ten-metre climbing tower, soared down the flying fox, paddled across the lake in canoes, and tested their aim in archery. Students also put their engineering skills to the test with raft-building - though for a few, questionable designs led to an unexpected (yet very refreshing) swim in the lake.

Beyond the adrenaline, the real theme of the camp was connection. Students worked together to solve team challenges, cheered each other on through tricky obstacles, and discovered new friendships over shared meals and late-night chats in the cabins.

Our Year 10 Peer Support Leaders played a key role in helping students bond, running trivia nights, assisting with running activities, and offering encouragement throughout the camp. It was not only an opportunity for our Year 7s to develop friendships but also a chance for the older students to test and refine their leadership skills in a real-world setting.

By the time we boarded the buses home, shoes were muddied, bodies were weary, but spirits were high. More importantly, the bonds formed over these few days have helped shape Year 7 into a cohesive and supportive group. Through teamwork, encouragement, and shared experiences, our students have built the foundation for a strong and connected year level—one that is ready to tackle challenges, support each other, and achieve success, not just this year but well into the future.
